Our application process is rigorous, so it’s important to read these application procedures carefully prior to completing and forwarding your application. You should think about the best way for you to demonstrate your unique skills and experiences and give us your most complete and thoughtfully prepared responses to all questions on the application.

The Temple University Beasley School of Law offers JD degrees in full-time and part-time programs. The full-time program is typically completed in three years, and the part-time program is completed over four to five years.

The Beasley School of Law has a transfer credit policy for students who have previously attended law school or earned an undergraduate degree in business, economics, or political science. The school also has a post-baccalaureate program for applicants with a bachelor’s degree in any field who want to pursue a career in law.

Students must complete 90 credits of coursework to earn a JD degree at Temple University Beasley School of Law. Required courses include civil procedure, constitutional law, criminal law, contracts, evidence, property law and torts. Students also take electives related to specific areas of interest such as immigration law or international human rights law. The final year of study consists of required courses such as professional responsibility and legal research & writing II.

Temple Law School Requirements

Please submit all required materials by the designated deadline. Items postmarked by the deadline but arriving late will not be considered on time. All documents not in English must be professionally translated. Documents will not be returned. Please contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

2. Official TOEFL or IELTS Score Report

All non-native speakers of English must submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score. Applicants who earned a university degree in an English-speaking country or from an institution in which English is the medium of instruction may petition to have the language proficiency test requirement waived.

• TUJ conducts an institutional TOEFL (ITP) exam almost every month. Scores are valid only in an application to TUJ.

3. Transcripts and Degree Verification

Official transcripts from all third-level institutions attended must be submitted directly to Temple Law School in Philadelphia by the issuing institutions in envelopes sealed by the institutions.

If any transcript merely lists the courses that you have completed, but does not show that the institution actually conferred your degree, then you must additionally ask the institution to submit a certificate of degree completion. The transcript alone will not suffice.

A certified English language translation must also accompany transcripts that are not issued in English. We do not accept transcripts that the applicant has handled or opened. Applicants may also submit overseas transcripts through an academic credentials evaluation service, such as World Evaluation Service (WES) or Law School Admission Council (LSAC).

4. Personal Statement

A personal statement should include information about your personal history, professional interests, and abilities that you think might help the Admissions Committee know you as a person and as a professional. Your personal statement should be between 500 and 1,000 words. Please submit the statement through the online application website.

5. Letters of Recommendation

Students must submit at least two letters of recommendation, though we would prefer three, from either law professors or legal employers well acquainted with your academic abilities or professional skills. Recommendation letters may be submitted online or in hard-copy form. A Student Recommendation Form is available on the application website for submission in hard-copy form.

6. Resume

A resume should contain details about your education and work experience.

Is Temple Law School the right fit for you? To find out, you need to know what the requirements are. We’ve compiled a list of requirements below, so you can get a clear picture of what it takes to get into Temple Law.

What do I need to apply?

To apply, you’ll need to submit an online application, personal statement (which is required), and resume. You’ll also need to submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities you’ve attended, including any study abroad programs. If you have a foreign language proficiency certificate, that needs to be submitted as well.

What kind of GPA do I need?

If you’re applying with a bachelor’s degree, your GPA should be at least 3.5/4.0 or higher. If that’s not possible with your current grades, then you’ll need to take the LSAT and score above 145 in order to qualify for admission. If this is still not enough to get accepted, consider taking classes at one of Temple’s partner institutions: La Salle University or Villanova University (or other schools). These courses will help build up your GPA and give you more experience in law school-level courses without taking away from your current studies at another college or university
