The largest university in Tennessee by the number of enrolled students is the University of Tennessee (UT). According to Knox News in September 15, 2020, the university and its two campuses has more than 52,200 students enrolled in their system. From the same report, it was highlighted that the enrollment in the UT Knoxville is up by more than 1,100 new students, while the student enrollees in UT Chattanooga is up by 100 new students. According to the university Website, the consistent large number of enrollees is reflective of their commitment to educate as many students as possible who will serve the country. For incoming freshmen students who are interested about getting admitted to the UT system, some of the requirements include the completion of the Vol in Progress application, self-reported academic record, $50 application fee, and an essay. Some colleges within the university, however, may request additional requirements. Most students who get admitted are evaluated based on rigor of high school curriculum, difficulty of senior-level coursework, extracurricular activities, awards, special talents/skills, and optional letter of recommendation.
