    And don’t forget about the grad programs. They are outstanding across the board.

My advisor was really caring and helped me do more than plan my schedule. The school acknowledges the stress culture is pretty bad and has taken steps to provide stress relievers (eg: mindfulness room, paws to relax, the petting zoo, etc). The campus food wasn’t bad and the staff was friendly. Professors were, for the most part, understanding when things came up. I was able to make a few lifelong friends too! The campus is pretty diverse, with a majority of students being internationals!

If you are looking for a party school, this is not the place for you – the scene is pretty standard for a large-sized American school and on the whole you are expected to work hard more than play hard. Students spend a lot of time networking and treat their clubs like full-time careers, and for good reason – they often secure job offers on the strengths of having well-known student groups and internships on their resumes.

    However, the school still needs to work on doing more than paying lip service to diversity. It has exceptional cultural diversity but doesn’t do enough for its students who are low-income and black or Native American, for instance. The school’s mental health efforts have also been largely misdirected.

It’s easy to get involved with research, study abroad, or engage in other opportunities that interest you. Duke has a diverse social scene, so there really is a place for everyone, but it can be challenging to navigate the selective organizations. There are hundreds of student groups to join, and most have strong social components too. The food and campus living environment are both superb, and the city of Durham is nearby and nice as well. Duke grads have numerous post-grad opportunities, and I was able to get a great job.

    Further, the community is awesome. I have met and will continue to meet incredible minds. There are so many different people and groups here that everyone will find a place. The friends that I have made here I hold close to my heart.
    Also, I want to mention its location. Atlanta is truly a beautiful city with many things to do after a long days of studying. There’s the Coca-cola factory, Ponce City Market, and much more.

I have heard that the same is true for certain undergraduate majors/pre-professional tracks, such as pre-med and engineering. Overall, a memorable and wonderful place to go to school as an undergrad– Ithaca is gorges! You will work hard, learn a great deal, and make long-lasting connections.

The academics were top notch, and several of my peers are already successful in their careers; the degree as a label has traction in the job market.

    As a Veteran who grew up in Minnesota, the weather was mild for me, but those from the South will find the winter challenging.

    I found myself very absorbed by my studies at that time, and so did most of the other students. That can make it extremely easy to meet people in an intellectual sense but somewhat difficult to meet in a social sense. My advice is if you want to date, you should learn how to meet people at NYU.

    Financial aid is difficult to obtain, but I was a Veteran, and the government paid my tuition, so that was not my struggle.

The school emphasizes pre-professionalism, providing many resources for corporate career development but also placing a lot of pressure on the student body. The student climate was compettiive, and students often spent most of their time with their extracurricular groups. The older dorms (I did not live in any of the newer developments) needed to renovations, and were unhygenic and cramped.

I love our student run businesses – coffeehouse, east west tea (boba), the hoot (late night eats), etc. Campus and the nearby rice village can get old after awhile. Definitely explore houston when you can! It’s pretty diverse and spread out. If you don’t have a car, they give you a bus/metro rail pass which I actually used pretty often pre-pandemic.

The mix of academics, clubs and outdoor activities, and social scene is (in my opinion) unparalleled. Everyone is academically driven, and I feel like I can have an intellectual conversation with anyone on campus. There is a sport, club, or outdoor activity for everyone at the college, as most people I know are heavily involved in at least 2 extracurricular clubs. Lastly, the social scene is fun and inclusive. There are different frats and sororities for different all types of preferences, and every house has an “open door” policy. There is little to no social hierarchy that I’ve noticed (Football players aren’t treated differently from comp sci geeks), making it so that anyone can be friends with anyone.

    One additional note: sophomore summer is the best term of all time! Look it up.

I was able to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics with peers who were similarly passionate. There are boundless opportunities to take courses both on campus or at any of the four other undergraduate Claremont Colleges that are all within a 1-mile radius, just a short walk or quick bike-ride away. I had the opportunity to pursue summer research projects and engage in a thesis project during my senior year. The campus encourages students to present their research across the nation at various conferences. It’s not uncommon for the department sponsoring your research project to also sponsor your attendance at research conferences including paying for hotel, airfare, and a food stipend! Last but most definitely not least, the advisors are passionate about your success and meet with students frequently. I personally met with my advisor on a weekly basis. I am grateful for this amazing undergraduate institution!

However, the school is making the most of it! Traditional events are still held online to the best of their ability, and they offer many opportunities to socialize with others. There are many student organizations to join with interests in nearly everything. I was never drawn to Greek Life, but at UCLA, the sororities were very welcoming, and joining was the best decision I made this quarter. It was a gateway to meeting new people and making friends. In terms of academics, my professors were flexible with our schedules and empathized with us during this pandemic. The one thing that I would change, though, would be the tuition and fees. The payments are quite expensive for being online and not being able to use any of those resources in person. Overall, I do not regret my decision of attending UCLA and considering the circumstances, I enjoyed my first quarter!

I had a great freshman year despite finishing with 44 credits in some very challenging courses. Professors not TA’s taught my courses and they as well as their TA’s did a great job of being accessible when I needed assistance. Hopkins offers additonal tutoring and review sessions which were very helpful. The classes were small and intimate and I felt comfortable and engaged and the content was right on target with my expectations. I was also able to obtain a research assistant position as a freshman and was able to meet directly with the department chair which was thrilling. Johns Hopkins has met and exceeded my expectations. I have found the environment to be challenging but collaborative and not competitive at all. Even with the pandemic, my freshman year turned out to be a great one THANKS to Johns Hopkins!

Regardless of extracurricular interests, however, there’s an undeniable bond in the love of learning and open-mindedness that ties everyone in UChicago together.

Even though I tried to manage my expectations, they were disappointed. THAT BEING SAID, I’m glad I am a student at Berkeley. It is the best and the worst, wonderful and terrible, and for me, that feels like a fairly accurate representation of how the world is today. If you would describe yourself as an idealistic person, yes, come to Berkeley! But be prepared to hold onto your values tightly.

They have all been willing to go the extra mile in order to teach, be it holding long office hours and staying later or staying back long after class has ended, especially before exams. Their passion not only for the subject but for our education really helped me through some tough courses. Furthermore, the community is excellent. Notre Dame is truly a family, and dorm communities are very distinct and strong. Each dorm has its own mascots and colors and become a part of a person’s identity. It is similar to Greek life but without the negatives of rushing and hazing. Everybody is very kind and inclusive.

First of all she got a full ride, they removed a massive strain off of our family and did it completely and thoroughly. She had met and spoken with several faculty members before applying (Early Decision) and visited the campus, and they were so helpful and supportive it really allowed us to make a confident Early Decision. My daughter is gifted, but shy shy shy, and her mother is Brazilian, so VERY attached and we worried about sending her away. It was tough, but the support of programs like Deneb Stars and the many other programs (including late night escorts for safety) allowed her to make the leap and find her feet. Once the pandemic hit, WashU was amongst the first half dozen schools to move online (they are now hybrid, my daughter is working from home). The faculty and admin prioritized their health first, while the coursework has remained rigorous. She is thriving. A+ response Washu!
