Funding
All applicants to a Computer Science graduate program are automatically considered for financial support. M.Sc. students are normally funded at the rate of $21,500/yr for the first two years of their program. Ph.D. students normally receive $24,500/yr for the first four years of their program. Furthermore, we only accept international graduate students for whom we can provide at least these funding amounts (except in special circumstances).
Some sources of funding require that the student have a GPA of at least 80% at the time of admission and maintain a GPA of at least 75% for the duration of their funding period. Most students will be required to provide service hours to the department as a lab instructor or marker.
All students who are awarded an NSERC (CGS-D, CGS-M) or Vanier scholarship, and attend the Department of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan will receive an additional $6,000 annual top-up scholarship from the College of Graduate Studies and Research for each year that they hold the award. Furthermore, after the award is finished, they will continue to receive funding from the Department of Computer Science for the remainder of their funding term as listed above. For example, if a student is awarded an NSERC CGS-M award listing the University of Saskatchewan as an institution where they could hold the award, and they are admitted and attend the Department of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan, they will receive $17,500 from NSERC plus a $6,000 top-up from the College of Graduate Studies and Research for their first year; and for their second year, they will receive the standard $21,500.

Every student must complete a minimum of 30 credit units (equivalent to 10 single-term [Fall Term: September through December; Winter Term: January through April; Spring and Summer Term: May through June or July through August] credit-based classes).
- The following 9 credit units and non-credit courses are prescribed as required courses: EADM 811.3, EADM 990.X, EADM 991.3, ERES 800.3 or ERES 810.3 or ERES 820.3, and GSR 960.X
- ERES courses are not under the authority of the Department of Educational Administration and may require a pre-approval for registration by both the Associate Dean of Graduate Programming in the College of Education and the instructor teaching the section of interest.
- Each student’s program must include at least 15 credit units from among the following: EADM 812.3, EADM 813.3, EADM 816.3, EADM 819.3, EADM 820.3, EADM 821.3, EADM 824.3, EADM 825.3, EADM 826.3, EADM 829.3, EADM 834.3, EADM 835.3, EADM 836.3, EADM 892.3, EADM 894.3, EADM 895.3.
- The remaining 6 credit units are open electives and may be chosen from the above list or from those courses offered by other departments on the approval of the Department Head.
- While the Department Head approves the taking of a course from outside of Educational Administration, it is the responsibility of the student to seek permission from both the instructor and the Graduate Chair in the respective Department offering the course of interest.

- Master’s course-based students are required to register continually in their programs from beginning to end, in every term, including the summer sessions. If there is no course for a master’s course-based student to take in a particular term, he or she shall be registered in Maintenance of Status. This registration carries with it tuition fees and student fees equivalent to a three (3) credit unit course. Maintenance of Status terms are included as part of a student’s time in program.
This means that students must register in at least one course in Term 1 (September – December), Term 2 (January – April), and in Spring and Summer Term (either during May – June or during July – August) in each year in which they are registered as students in the program. If a student does not register in at least one course in each of these three terms, the University will assess a tuition for “Maintenance of Status” equal to the value of the tuition for one 3 credit unit course.
