Texas State University Degree Requirements

The Texas State University System (TSUS) is made up of eight institutions in Texas. It was created in order to oversee the normal schools of the state in 1911. However, today it has a larger scope and has broadened its focus to incorporate different institutions. This is the longest-running system in Texas and uniquely is the only horizontal state university system. It is also unique because each university has something that sets that institution apart; there is no flagship institution in the system. The system has seen many schools join or move to other systems over the years. The largest growth happened in 1995 when TSUS incorporated the Lamar University System with four schools, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar University, Lamar State College-Port Arthur, and Lamar State College-Orange.
