The University of Divinity promotes the highest standards of scholarship in theology, philosophy and ministry. Through scholarship, the University aims to address the issues of the contemporary world. Founded in 1910 as the Melbourne College of Divinity, the University has a long history of pursuing and achieving these aims.

All students and staff join the University through one of its Colleges. Based in the Australian cities of Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, each College is a unique learning community. Policies and Services

Admission criteria

Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)

Undergraduate applicants are normally required to have the Victorian Certificate of Education, International Baccalaureate or equivalent. The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is not used in selection of students for admission.

Applicants with Higher Education study

Students with a prior Bachelor or Masters degree may opt for study at either undergraduate or postgraduate level. Students may be eligible for credit for their prior studies.

Applicants with Vocational Education and Training (VET) study

Undergraduate applicants are normally required to have the Victorian Certificate of Education, International Baccalaureate or equivalent. Applicants with a prior VET qualification in theology or a related area may be eligible for credit at undergraduate level.

Applicants with work and life experience

Applicants who have the Victorian Certificate of Education, International Baccalaureate or equivalent are eligible to apply for all University of Divinity undergraduate courses.

Applicants who do not have the Victorian Certificate of Education, International Baccalaureate or equivalent may apply to enter the Diploma in Theology, and, on completion, use the Diploma as a pathway into further undergraduate studies.

Additional Information

Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications

Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications are eligible to apply if their prior studies were taken at a Recognised Institution of the University (please see Regulation 2 Determination 12).

English Language proficiency

English Language Proficiency Requirements detailed in the Admissions Policy (section 6) apply to all applicants for coursework and higher degree by research awards at the University, and to applicants for single units.

Enrolment

Acceptance of offer

If your application is accepted, you will receive an admission letter from the University and a welcome pack from your College with the information you need to get started.

Credit for prior study

If you believe you are eligible for credit for prior study, submit a Credit Application Form with your Admission form. Your course advisor will be able to help you complete the form. Your course advisor will notify you of the result of your credit application during your first semester of study.

Deferment

Accepted students may delay their commencement of study by up to two semesters.

The Colleges of the University offer a range of support services for students as required by the Student Support Services Policy, including orientation events, academic skills programs, spiritual and welfare support. Please contact your College for further information.

Appeals and Grievances

All members of the University, including students and academic staff, must abide by the Statement of Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct of Members of the University. The Universityโ€™s Grievances Policy may be consulted where a member of the University is alleged to be in breach of the Statement. Fees and financial assistance

The University of Divinity Council sets tuition fees and fees for other services annually. Fees at the University are governed by the Fees Policy. The approved schedule of tuition fees can be downloaded fromDivinity Fees 2020.

Fees for the provision of academic documents are approved by the University Council and may be found in the Academic Documents Policy and Procedures.

The student tuition fee for a unit must be paid in full prior to the commencement of a unit. Fees are paid directly to the University of Divinity at the time of admission or re-enrolment.

FEE-HELP

Australian citizens and holders of a permanent humanitarian visa may defer the payment of fees through the FEE-HELP loan scheme.  Tuition fees are paid by the Australian Government and debited to a loan account. Students are not required to begin repaying the accumulated loan debt until their taxable income rises above the compulsory repayment threshold.
