2. Galway Mayo Institute of Technology

Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) is a tertiary education institution in Galway, Ireland. It was established in 1970 as the Regional Technical College, Galway. The current name was adopted when the college merged with Mayo Institute of Technology on 1 January 2014.

It is one of seven institutions in the Republic of Ireland which are permitted to use the term “university” in their name under Section 35(1)(a) of the Universities Act 1997 but it is not permitted to confer its own degrees or award research doctorates.

3. Dublin City University

Dublin City University (DCU) is a university in Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1854 as the Catholic University of Ireland, and chartered by Queen Victoria in 1880 under its current name. Location: Limerick

Accommodation: On-campus residence or off-campus housing

Courses: Undergraduate and masters degrees in Fine Art, Digital Media, Fine Art Animation and Illustration, Game Design & Development and Creative Writing. Postgraduate diplomas in Digital Visual Effects, Fashion Design & Technology (FDT), Interior Architecture Studies (IAS) and Product Design.

At the time of writing there is no information on student satisfaction or career prospects available for LSAD students.

7. Crawford College Of Art And Design, Cork City

Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork City

Crawford College of Art and Design was founded in 1852 as the Cork School of Design by the Cork painter James Brenan. As a part of the Crawford family’s social project to create a flourishing cultural environment in Ireland, it was originally financed by William Crawford (a wealthy businessman) who provided a building for its use on Mardyke Walk (now known as Mardyke Street). The college also benefited from the support given by local benefactors such as Sir Thomas Deane and his wife Dame Ellen Deane.

The original aim of this non-sectarian institution was to provide art education for both men and women but it has evolved into being one of Ireland’s leading specialist art colleges offering full-time programmes in painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustration and animation.
