The University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) is a public dental school located in Louisville, Kentucky. Established in 1887, it is one of two dental schools in the state of Kentucky.

Academic Prerequisites

Applicants must have completed at least 90 undergraduate semester hours before applying and most will have earned a bachelor’s degree prior to enrolling in dental school. Admission is competitive and preference is given to individuals with bachelor’s degrees. Students enter dental school with majors as wide-ranging as biology, business, chemistry, English, engineering and the social sciences. Students need 60 or more college credit hours from four-year institutions.

All applicants are required to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), which is administered through the American Dental Association (ADA). Letters of Evaluation

Three letters of evaluation or an evaluation from an institution’s preprofessional committee are required. All letters must be submitted to AADSAS. Dental Shadowing and Observation

• Complete the  AADSAS application  and all other  admissions requirements.
• Take the DAT. DAT scores will be imported to AADSAS directly from the testing center. Applicants may submit other parts of the application prior to taking the DAT but only complete applications (including official DAT scores) will be reviewed.
• Once we have received your verified AADSAS application, you will receive an email requesting our supplemental fee. We do not have an additional supplemental application.
• Our Admissions staff will email you regarding the status of your application until completion. Applicants are encouraged to check AADSAS for the status of their application as well. After applications are deemed complete, they go to the Admissions Committee for review for consideration for an interview.

Any applicant who is unsure of his or her Kentucky residency status should review the regulation “Determination of Residency Status for Admission and Tuition Assessment Purposes” as provided by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). The regulation is used by Kentucky state-supported postsecondary institutions pursuant to KRS 164.020 and KRS 164.030 and is codified as 13 KAR 2:045, Determination of Residency Status for Admission and Tuition Assessment Purposes.This regulation provides guidance for the ULSD Residency Determination Committee to make the initial determination of residency at interview. Applicants who declare Kentucky residency may be asked to provide proof of residency documentation if the Committee cannot find sufficient evidence to declare the applicant a resident of Kentucky for purposes of admission and tuition assessment. The University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) offers an Advanced Standing admission option into the D.M.D. program for selected individuals who have received a dental degree from an institution outside the United States or Canada. English Language Proficiency

• Must be proficient in the English language.
• Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). (The TOEFL is preferred).
