The acceptance rate for students who applied to SJSUโ€™s Animation program was not available as of 2018-2019 academic year. However, we do have information about their overall admission rate for the same period which was 63%. This means that out of all applicants who applied to SJSUโ€™s Animation program only 63% were admitted. The remaining 37% were denied admission or withdrawn from their applications due to financial reasons or other issues such as being ineligible for admission into the university due to academic performance or lack thereof

Scope of Program

Are you looking to pursue an art degree with a concentration in animation or illustration?

San Josรฉ State University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art program offers several emphases.

Animation/Illustration students must choose one of two concentrations after completing coursework in art history, 2D and 3D design, visual principles for animation, 3D animation and illustration. Animation students focus on advanced animation, digital animation and field work, while Illustration students take courses in concept illustration, digital animation, field work and advanced illustration. A senior project is required.

Digital Media Art students concentrate on digital video/media ecology, art and information, art as system, human machine interface, advanced topics and a senior project. Students create a portfolio as part of their studies. A laptop is required.

Graphic Design students take courses in art and design, 2D and 3D design, drawing, photography, digital applications, typography and special topics. Students create a portfolio as part of their studies. A laptop is required.

Master’s degree candidates take art history courses and do research in the digital media arts.  Seminars and an individual exhibition round out the master’s degree program.

Travel study programs to New York, Los Angeles and London are available.  All B. F. A. and M. F. A. applicants must submit a portfolio.  Merit and need-based scholarships are available from the university and from the School of Art and Design.  Freshmen under age 21 who do not reside in the local area must live on campus during their first year at San Josรฉ State.

San Josรฉ State University is an “impacted campus,” which means many more prospective students apply than can be accepted.  As such, San Josรฉ State University must restrict the number of incoming freshmen and transfer students it accepts, particularly from outside its state-designated “local area.”  This is typically accomplished by imposing additional eligibility standards (e.g. higher standardized test score/grade point average combination, called the “eligibility index”).  All majors are also “impacted majors,” which means that students typically are designated pre-majors and must complete prerequisite courses before applying to their major.

Non-residents pay a tuition rate of $372 per semester hour in addition to in-state registration fees. Need-based and merit-based scholarships are available.

What Is The Acceptance Rate For San Jose State University

About SJSU Graphic Design 

San Josรฉ State Universityโ€™s Graphic Design Program is one of the most unique in the country. It was formalized in 1969 and remains the only program in a public university in the Silicon Valley. Because of its opportune location in the Bay Area, students are able to work with design and technology industries, as well as professional and service organizations, to connect with broader design communities. These experiences, coupled with the internship they are required to complete, will arm students with the skills and confidence that make them effective contributors of the professional graphic design world.

Graphic Design at SJSU offers both a Bachelors Degree (BFA) and an Associates Degree (AS). The BFA program is an intensive 2-year program that allows students to develop their skills with an emphasis on fine art, image making and design. Students enrolled in this program will learn about typography, color theory, layout principles of design, typographic theory and history as well as visual communication strategies for print media applications. Students who enroll into this program may also choose between two specializations: Graphic Design or Digital Media Design.
