Graduate Admissions
All engineering graduate applicants must submit the following materials.
- Application
- Application fee – $50 domestic; $75 international
- Statement of purpose – must be an original essay submitted with application. Scanned copies will not be accepted for submission.
- Resume – must be submitted with application
- Bioengineering applicants must complete essay questions and an application background survey. Contact the department for more information
- Official transcripts – we require one official copy of each previous transcript. Send e-transcripts to the Graduate School at graduateadmissions@ucdenver.edu
- Letters of recommendation – three are required (two for civil engineering); a 4th is optional
- Official GRE scores – the college has temporarily suspended the evaluation of GRE scores for admission decisions through the 2022 application cycle. If choosing to submit, send scores officially through ETS using code #4875. Preferred minimum score of 300+.
NOTE: Written application materials submitted are scanned for plagiarism and are added to a local database used for plagiarism detection.
English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements
In addition to the above requirements, applicants earning from non-English speaking countries need to demonstrate English language proficiency as outlined below:
- TOEFL: Minimum TOEFL score accepted: 79 IBT / 537 PBT (CU Denver institutional code: 4875)
- IELTS: Minimum IELTS score accepted: 6.5
- Duolingo: Minimum Duolingo score accepted: 105
- PTE Academic: minimum PTE Academic score accepted: 51
The TOEFL/IELTS requirement can be waived if an applicant has graduated from the ESL Academy. Information regarding other considerations for exemption, including country of citizenship/origin, and special circumstances can be found here.
Please allow 3 weeks from test date for all GRE and ELP scores to post to your student portal.
Submitting IELTS scores: Requests for score delivery to institutions must be submitted directly to the test center where you took the IELTS test. Scores are available approximately 13 days from the test date. Please follow the directions below when submitting requests for test scores.
Sending results to nominated organizations: When you book your test, you can nominate up to five organizations to receive your IELTS test results on your behalf. This service is free of charge. Results can be sent to further nominated organizations for a small administration fee.
If your center has closed, you can ask for your IELTS result to be sent to your nominated organizations by organizations (by filling in the Application for Additional TRFs (from closed centers) form. This service is available for up to two years from the date of your IELTS test.
