Bachelor Of Science In Applied Biology Overview
Many students choose to pursue a degree in biology in order to gain an expert level of knowledge and laboratory experience in cells and organisms and their environments. This expertise can then be applied to further specialization in graduate studies, leading to careers in the health sciences and experimental research.
What is a Biology BSc? This Bachelor of Science degree provides students with a foundation in botany, zoology, and ecology, as well as molecular and cell biology and microbiology. Students participate in classes and labs, gaining essential information about organisms. A BSc can be used as a prerequisite for graduate work in the biological sciences or as a terminal degree for research and laboratory work.
Courses such as organismal and cell biology, genetics, and chemistry, along with their associated laboratory work, make up the knowledge base that students will build on as they continue their degree and begin to focus their studies. Students will choose an area of specialization and tailor their final coursework toward this focus in areas such as field botany or microbiology, developing expertise that will give them an advantage in graduate school applications or fieldwork.
The length of time it takes to complete this degree will vary depending on the different requirements of individual schools, and as a result, the cost varies across institutions. Prospective students should check with each institution to get an idea of the cost in time and tuition payments that will be required to complete the degree.
The knowledge and laboratory experience gained will be invaluable to students interested in continuing graduate work in biology, helping them to move on to careers in education, scientific research industries, laboratory work, and government positions. Students who earn this degree are well prepared for careers in medicine, as the degree provides them the path to graduate school and the background necessary to apply to medical, dental, and veterinary schools.
Prospective students can find an institution where they may pursue a degree by searching our extensive database of schools. Information on each school can then be used to compare course requirements, settings, and total cost to the individual student’s needs and career goals. About The Bachelor of Bachelor of Science Applied Biology
Students in the bachelor of science in applied biology are prepared for a career in national and international companies or public institutions dealing with biology and biomedicine. The aims of the bachelor of science in biology programme are to provide basic knowledge in natural sciences, a strong theoretical background as well as practical know-how in modern biological methods, and to develop analytical, decision-making, social, and language skills.
Basic subjects are taught in the first year of the degree in biology, which consists of courses in chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and basic courses in biology (histology, anatomy, cell biology, physiology, and microbiology). From the second year onwards, courses focus on molecular genetics, biochemistry, medical microbiology, and immunology. The elective courses offer insights into special fields of biology and biomedicine. The Bachelor’s thesis involves a three-month training period in a research group or company and gives students the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge in research and development. Students can spend their fifth and/or sixth semester at one of our partner universities abroad. Several double degree programmes are offered.
