University of Chester

The University of Chester is a public university located in the historic city of Chester, England. The University, the first purpose-built teacher training college in the UK, based in five campus sites in and around Chester and one in Warrington, offers a range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as undertaking academic research.

The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Cathedrals Group, the North West Universities Association and Universities UK.
Entry Requirements

Entry requirements differ by course and are 104, 112 or 120 UCAS points for the majority of courses.
The University of Chester makes offers using a mixture of tariff points and grades, or just grades. Students taking A levels are normally expected to present at least 3 A levels for entry to undergraduate courses; exact requirements vary by course. If students are studying a 4th A level or EPQ the university will consider it, but otherwise an offer will be based on GSCE performance and A level predictions as well as the reference and personal statement.
A range of qualifications are accepted including relevant BTEC, OCR Cambridge Technical and other vocational qualifications as well as a mix of A levels, Welsh Baccalaureate and BTEC/OCR courses.

History

The University of Chester was the first purpose-built teacher training college, founded in 1839 by the Church of England. In 2005 it achieved full university status, with research degree awarding powers granted in 2007.
In 2014, Thornton Science Park opened at the site of the former Shell Technology, Exploration and Research Centre. In 2015, the University opened its Queen’s Park Campus in Chester which is home to the University’s Business School; and University Centre Shrewsbury, opened to students in partnership with Shropshire Council.
The University is currently developing a Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Science through a strategic alliance with University Centre Reaseheath. The Institute of Medicine is a new development with a portfolio of postgraduate programmes aimed at a broad range of medical practitioners.
