Program Description
The Master’s degree program ‘Master of Oral Implantology’ (MOI) has been introduced at the J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in order to offer advanced academic training in the field of oral implantology to dentists from both Germany and abroad. The aim is to impart comprehensive and highly-specialized theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The course is a two-year modular part-time, graduate course of study at the J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, which is structured and taught completely independently of extra-University institutions and companies with regard to both content and finance. The program is accredited by the German Accreditation Council (ZEvA).
The field of oral implantology is based in part on extremely complex interdisciplinary treatment methodologies, which require a strong correlation and coordination of various areas of specialization. For this reason, the course aims to prioritize a highly rational and analytical method of thinking that will enable the optimal examination and harmonization of the individual patient diagnosis, the selected treatment method, and its results.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Programme from the University of Glasgow is designed for dental graduates who wish to develop clinical and research skills in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
This programme will enable you to develop an in-depth knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery including its history, ethics, principles, and practice; clinical care; diagnosis and decision making; clinical governance; contemporary developments; research literacy; evidence-based practice; legal requirements; patient safety and health promotion.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery deals with conditions of the mouth, teeth, jaws, face, neck, salivary glands, the hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and facial (head and neck) area. It also covers injuries to the face such as fractured jaws or noses.
This programme is based at the Dental School in Glasgow’s city centre. Clinics are also run at other NHS hospital sites in Scotland.
Course description
Our three-year MSc (Clin) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery course enables dentists to train in the specialty concerned with the diagnosis and management of diseases, injuries and defects affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
All units are based on the speciality of oral surgery, but within the wider context of maxillofacial surgery. You will undertake minor oral surgery under supervision, carried out under local anaesthesia, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia. You will also attend theatre to assist and observe major surgery and attend consultation clinics, trauma clinics, ward rounds and carry out ward duties.
The clinical component of the course consists of units covering surgical basic sciences, reflective oral surgery practices, dental tissues, bone disease and injury, soft tissues, and salivary tissue, pain and the temporomandibular joint.
You will attend weekly interactive seminars led by senior staff and invited guest speakers. Some of these have actor patients present to allow you to rehearse your clinical skills.
If you study the full three-year MSc, you will also attend external teaching events such as residential blocks for basic science applied to surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
You will become eligible to sit the Royal College of Surgeons examinations for Membership in Oral Surgery on completion of this MSc course.
This is a modular programme of study which leads to the award of Master’s Degree in Oral Surgery, and will provide an enhanced knowledge base in all aspects of oral surgery, including:
-Oral medicine
-Oral pathology
-Conscious sedation and analgesia
-Minor oral surgery techniques and management of medically compromised patients
-Major oral surgery techniques and management of medically compromised patients
Successful completion also allows you to apply for registration as a specialist with the General Dental Council (GDC) and membership with the British Association of Oral Surgeons (BAOS).
