Stanford Masters Acceptance Rate

The Stanford University master’s acceptance rate is highly competitive, with only around 5% of external applicants being admitted. However, for internal or Coterm applicants, the acceptance rate is closer to 50%. This is because many internal applicants are already involved in research with a Stanford faculty member who may support their admission and supervise their master’s project if accepted.

To be considered for admission to a master’s program at Stanford University, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 (or 85%) for their bachelor’s degree. International applicants are encouraged to aim for a GPA between 3.7 and 3.9 (or 93-99%) to increase their chances of acceptance. Meeting these GPA requirements is crucial for being competitive in the admissions process at Stanford University.

The admission process at Stanford University involves submitting a complete application, including transcripts, letters of recommendation, test scores (if required), and a statement of purpose. Applicants will also need to pay an application fee and may be required to participate in an interview as part of the selection process. Meeting the GPA requirements is just one step in a comprehensive application process that evaluates an applicant’s academic achievements, research experience, and potential for success in a master’s program at Stanford University.

Stanford University Early And Regular Decision Admissions

Stanford University has extended its policy of non-disclosure of its complete admissions numbers to the regular decision. Last year, Stanford declined to release the number of candidates admitted in December through Stanford’s Restrictive Early Action program.  This year, Stanford only disclosed the number of successful applicants, namely 2,057 students.  We, however, believe Stanford’s numbers of applicants to be stable or increasing slightly, and have estimated the numbers for the Class of 2023.  We estimate the early acceptance rate for the Class of 2023 to be just above 9 percent and its overall admission rate to be above 4 percent. Based on past years, we estimate the applicants’ pool to be around 49,000 students with 2,057 successful applicants.  Last year Stanford University offered admission to the Class of 2022 to 2,071 students, or 4.36 percent of 47,450 candidates. Two years ago, Stanford admitted 2,062 students out of 47,876 applicants or 4.43 percent; three years ago they accepted 1,818 out of 45,389 or 4.59 percent; four years ago they took in 1,948 out of 42,467 or 4.51 percent; five years ago they accepted 1
