What is Georgetown Universityโ€™s transfer acceptance rate?

Established in 1789 with one building, today the university comprises three schools: the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), School of Foreign Service (SFS), and McDonough School of Business (MSB). Georgetown also has a law center on the main campus; it is independently operated but shares facilities with the university. The university has an undergraduate program based on four core principles: a liberal arts education conducted in English; study abroad encouraged for all undergraduates; community service requirements; and interaction between students and faculty through seminars and research opportunities.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is proud to offer admission to transfer students at Georgetown. Transfer admission is based on the same academic criteria as first-year applicants and includes consideration of the following:

File:Georgetown University seal.svg - Wikipedia
  • Academic achievement in all coursework, both high school and college, with special attention given to grades earned in collegiate-level coursework
  • Strength of curriculum, rigor of courses taken in high school, and performance in all academic subjects
  • Standardized test scores (if submitted)
  • Extracurricular activities, community service, work experiences, leadership roles and honors at all levels (high school, community/college)

In 2019, Georgetown received 2246 transfer applicants.

The school accepted 149 students. Therefore, the transfer acceptance rate for Georgetown is 6.63%.

In recent years the Admissions Committee has had the opportunity to consider transfer applicants for Spring admission (January 2021 for current applicants) in addition to our traditional Fall transfer class. The Committeeโ€™s ability to consider Spring transfer applicants varies from year to year, but in the likely event Spring, 2021 consideration is possible we welcome applicants to indicate interest in Spring admission, either in addition to Fall 2020 consideration of solely for Spring 2021. Applicants who indicate an interest in both Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 consideration, will first be reviewed for Fall 2020 admission. Indicating an additional interest in Spring consideration will not lessen any applicantโ€™s chances of Fall admission. (NB: As students must spend a minimum of four full semesters and earn 60 credits in residency at Georgetown to earn a degree, only candidates with an estimated 45 credit/hours or less of completed coursework by June 2020 โ€“ rising sophomores and not rising juniors โ€“ will be considered for January 2021 admission.)

Transfer applicants must provide official college/university transcripts from all previous institutions, as well as a completed Deanโ€™s Report, Professorโ€™s Report and Secondary School Report that includes the final high school transcript. Transfer applicants are required to provide either an SAT or ACT exam as part of the application process unless the candidate has been out of high school for five or more years prior to the date of intended matriculation at Georgetown.

For important information about the 2020 application process, we recommend you download and review the Information for Transfer Applicants document.

We are, unfortunately, not able to guarantee alumni interviews for transfer applicants. If a volunteer alumni interviewer is available in your area, you will be contacted by email. Since we are unable to guarantee the availability of an interview, it is not a required part of the transfer application process. (NB: Alumni interviews, if available, are assigned according to a transfer applicantโ€™s โ€œacademic year addressโ€ as noted on the Georgetown Transfer Application; interviews typically occur between late February and very early April.)

Since we communicate with candidates about scheduling alumni interviews as well as missing credentials via e-mail, we kindly ask that you allow access for georgetown.edu e-mail addresses through any spam filters you or your internet service provider employs. Blocked e-mails of a timely nature can hinder critical communication.
