Admission Requirements

For admission to TU Clausthal, international applicants need a certificate of their higher secondary education.

Direct Admission to University
If this international certificate is accepted as an equivalent to a German certificate, the applicant (after taking the DSH, TestDaF or an equivalent German language exam) can be admitted directly to the study program.

Applicants whose higher secondary education certificates are not equivalent may receive direct admission if they โ€“ depending on their country of birth and prior school education โ€“ provide evidence of one or two successfully completed academic years in their home country.

Admission to University through the Studienkolleg  (Preparatory School)
Applicants with a higher education entrance certificate which is only partially comparable to a German one must take an entrance exam at the Studienkolleg before acceptance to the study program. The Studienkolleg for all Lower Saxony universities is located at the Leibniz Universitรคt Hannover. To prepare for this exam, a 2-semester preparation course is offered which can be taken after passing an entrance exam.  Registration for the one-year preparation course at the Studienkolleg is carried out through TU Clausthal, where applicants must also send their application documents.

Requirements for an invitation to the entrance test (Studienkolleg)

The Studienkolleg Hannover has changed the prerequisites for taking the entrance test.

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must present a recognized German certificate: Onset, TestDaF, DSH, DSD I, DSD II, TELC, TELC B1, Goethe-Zertifikat, ร–SD-Zertifikat, IB-Deutsch.
  2. For applicants of TU Clausthal: in order to receive an invitation to the entrance test, the following requirements apply:
  • If you are abroad at the time of application, Goethe B2.
  • If you are attending a preparatory German language course at Mariaspring or at VHS Goslar: B2.1 from the respective cooperating institution.

Please note: The Studienkolleg Hannover has introduced a selection process for the entrance test. The Studienkolleg Hannover will conduct the selection process among the applicants who have received an invitation to the entrance test. Only the selected applicants will be invited to the entrance test. An invitation to the entrance test does not guarantee participation in the entrance test.

Study Programmes

Nowadays computers play an important and constantly growing role in almost all areas of our life. The ongoing development of this technology and its successful use offer qualified professionals the best career prospects for years to come. Since the development of complex computer solutions is an increasingly interdisciplinary process, specialists with different qualification and training profiles are required for this. The courses of studies at Clausthal University of Technology in the field of mathematics and computer science are oriented towards these requirements and cover the range of areas from theoretical basics to concrete applications. In particular, they offer students the opportunity to overcome the dividing lines between the traditional fields of science and to qualify in the border areas of the areas described above. In addition to the specialist courses, the training also includes the deepening of language skills (technical English) and the acquisition of soft skills (project management, presentation techniques, etc.).

Computer Science at the TU Clausthal

… with the fields of study computer science, business informatics as well as technical informatics

Computer science is a young science that brings improvements to all areas of our daily lives. It is equally engineering, basic and applied science. Computer science is one of the driving forces behind technological progress in society, business and science. It develops innovative information and communication technologies that change our lives permanently. Computer science creates essential theoretical, technical and practical prerequisites for the increasing digitization of all areas of work and life.

  • The Bachelor’s program in Computer Science at Clausthal University of Technology offers enormous flexibility in the choice of study content, because it combines three fields of study: Computer Science, Information Systems and Computer Engineering. After a common first year of study with orientation courses from all areas, students decide – depending on their personal interests – on one of the three fields of study. All fields of study include a solid study of the basics of computer science and mathematics. In more in-depth courses, one can then learn current and future-oriented core competencies, such as the fundamentals and applications of artificial intelligence and IT security, the modeling of process flows as business processes, or the development of embedded control systems. Already in the first semester, all students gain insights into typical fields of activity in the “computer science workshop” and learn – regardless of whether they already have programming skills or not – to develop computer science systems and use them to solve practical tasks.
  • Our master program in computer science: The master’s program in computer science follows on seamlessly from the bachelor’s program, but is also ideally suited for lateral entry after completing a bachelor’s degree at other universities. In particular, this degree program offers the unique possibility of individual specialization in different areas of computer science through innovative study profiles and the largely free choice of subjects. Thus, individual majors can be chosen and combined, such as Secure and Cooperative Information Systems, Visual & Interactive Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cyberphysical Systems or Data Science & Big Data Technologies.

Business Informatics, Master of Science

The Master’s program in Business Information Systems is structured similarly. With the exception of a few subject-specific courses, all students can put together their studies based on individual subject combinations and thus specialize individually, for example in the engineering and optimization of information systems, the design of human-centered information systems or in the area of user-oriented data-intensive systems.

**For second degree studies tuition fees will only be charged if

  • a first degree program was successfully completed by the award of the diploma or master degree or the state examination at a German university and

If you experience financial hardship, you may apply to have your tuition fees waived or paid in installments. To do so, you will need to submit a form and other documents by the deadline (31 January for the summer semester; 31 July for the winter semester) at the Student Service Office.

To qualify for this benefit, you must demonstrate that paying your tuition in full would cause great hardship for you. Great hardship means that payment would be difficult for you even though it would not cause any other serious problems.
