Knowledge of Foreign Languages
In general, the language of instruction of degree programmes at the University of Vienna is German.
Some master programmes are taught in another language or in a combination of German and another language. Legal basis for this is the curriculum of the respective programme.
For some degree programme, you need to prove your language proficiency before admission and upload the certificate in the application. This can be done via your previous studies or a certificate of the respective language.
For other degree programmes, the indicated level is a recommendation. Without knowledge of the language the progress of your studies will be delayed. However, the level of knowledge is not checked during admission process.

University Of Vienna Fees
Tuition fee/Students’ Union fee
As long as you study at the University of Vienna, you have to pay the Students’ Union fee and possibly the tuition fee every semester in due time.
The amount of the tuition fee varies depending on your citizenship. If you are an EU/EEA/CH citizen, it also depends on how long you have already been studying.
- Every semester the required fee has to be received at the University of Vienna before the end of the period of grace (30 April/30 November). Please note that the bank transfer can take up to seven days. Thus, we advise you to pay a few days before the end of the deadline.
If you have paid your tuition fee/Students’ Union fee at another university, your admission at the University of Vienna will be automatically continued. If you do not want this to happen, you need to close your studies.
