“I have always considered myself a life learner. I currently hold both an Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree as well as an MBA. I enrolled at Ashworth under one of the career diploma programs to refamiliarize myself with the Security industry as my plan is to open my own agency in the near future. When I enrolled in the program, their website specifically stated that a textbook was included. Other courses specified an e-textbook for their curriculum. After beginning the course I reached out to Ashworth and asked when books would ship. Customer Service told me as soon as learning group 2 opened the book shipment would trigger. After opening learning group 2, just as the CS agent stated a shipment was triggered but a backorder status was applied. I waited several weeks with no change in status and reached out again. This time I received a short, “the book is an etextbook” and the ticket was closed. I then opened another ticket, explaining that when I enrolled in the course it was clearly outlined that the course offered a textbook and not an etextbook. I told them I was charged $40 for shipping and if this was actually the case I wanted a credit of $40. Ashworth responded and said that the shipping line is for various other fees. The ticket was closed, the shipment magically disappeared from my dashboard, and now I am forced to pay $40 for a piece of paper to be mailed to me once I complete the course. In regard to the material, it’s ok, but rather dated. The books are almost 10 years old. For what I was looking for, the course will meet my expectations. With that said, I would not recommend this school to anyone for their career diploma programs. Ashworth needs to conduct some serious customer service training. Answering inquiries with short answers and then just closing tickets is unacceptable. There needs to be a back and forth. Only the student should be allowed to mark the ticket as closed unless several days go by without anymore input from the student. Charging a shipping fee of $40 for “other fees” is shady. Telling students there will be a textbook shipment, then deciding textbooks don’t exist is shady. Removing the shipment from a dashboard once you are called out about it, is shady. This course shouldn’t be anymore than $500 period. Over priced, and underdelivered.”Dee

“I started Ashworth in 2006 but I stopped my program because I saw negative reviews. So I went to college on campus and found myself working as a nursing assistant for low wages. After earning 45 credits at several community colleges over the years, I had 8k in student loans. I did not want to take out anymore loans to get my education. I did more research on LinkedIn and found several graduates of Ashworth College working at places such as Chase bank, Wells Fargo as well as Major hospitals. At the age of 35 I decided I wanted to complete my diploma in Property Management. I choose to pay in full but I had the option to pay $59 monthly. I used a credit card and worked full time at night. When I enrolled, I used the Ashworth Facebook group as well as the student community. I motivated myself daily. The course had an ebook but I ordered a book used off Amazon. I completed all my chapters as well as my capstone project. When I needed help I sent my instructor an email and got a prompt response. I also had the option to get tutored but Im a independent learner so I rarely called. After I completed my course, which took me a year, I received my diploma. I will be taking my certification exam to be a Certified Leasing Consultant/ Assistant Property Manager as a starting position in the field. I will be continuing on with Ashworth College for my associates degree in business ( they accepted all my credits from 10 years ago) I’m very happy with my experience with the college and recommend them.”Tonya Felice

“Worst Customer Satisfaction I could possibly give. I enrolled in the school and paid for several months. I decided I wanted to go a different career route, and called to cancel. I have NOT TAKEN ONE CLASS. I still have to pay a cancelation fee that is above what my normal payment is. I will not ever recommend this school. If I had taken some classes, I could see that there might be a cancelation fee, but this school has taken over $200 from me and still wants more.”Jeremy K.

“Discovered an error in one of my Real Estate Law quizzes. Brought it to the attention of Support. They refused to address it. Same error appeared in my final exam. Support ignored the request yet again. Both profoundly effected my grades. Contacted President Britt and all of the college board members. They were too cowardice to admit they’d made a drastic error. Had to file an ethics complaint against President Britt. Their minion Andrew Kachurak gave a ‘blanket CYA’ response accusing me, the USPS, the Board, and his own co-worker of all lying that the college never received any of my correspondence. Fortunately, the USPS’ tracking capabilities put a cork in Andrew’s spout of sewage. He later admitted in a personal email that he was wrong; yet unfortunately left his stink over at the BBB. Not only does this school give quizzes and final exams with bogus information, they hide like roaches when the kitchen lights come on when faced with the reality that they screwed up. Highly UNRECOMMENDED!”Shannon Rose

“I completely recommend Ashworth College. I have attended several community colleges and universities in the pursuit of my education. Ashworth has been one of my absolutely favorite colleges! The course content is just as good, in my opinion, as any regionally accredited college. You do have to be a self-starter and self-motivated, but you can’t beat the flexibility that Ashworth offers. You basically have five courses every semester. There is one final semester exam that encompasses all courses. You have access to an online library and ProQuest for any needed research. There are papers involved (as most colleges have and should have), but do be aware. There seems to be usually two essays per course, but I found them fair and not exceedingly hard. A semester is usually six months but you can definitely take longer if you need to. While I recommend logging in daily to work a little bit, because of the self-paced nature of the school, I could decide to not log in for a week (if I was swamped with work or events in life) and everything would be okay. Ashworth allowed me to finally achieve my dream of finishing my associate’s degree after struggling to finish it over 5 years due to health issues. They were extremely generous with my transfer credit and almost took all my prior credits which was around 45 credits. Another school in a different program only accepted 16, so this was a huge blessing! I thank God for showing me Ashworth. It was so worth it. I now finally have my degree framed on my wall that I’ve been dreaming about for years. I have decided to continue my education at Ashworth to a bachelor’s degree. I’m so excited and can’t wait! A quick tip: check with your future job’s requirements and make sure they accept Ashworth’s credits. Do the same with any master’s programs. Best of luck in your pursuits and may God bless your journeys!”Gabrielle

“I am going to the school right now and I’m getting my bachelors degree in psychology here because it extremely cheap and I can go get my masters and doctorate at a nicer school. I do not want to go into debt this gives me the opportunity to go to school debt free. If you can’t afford 1500 every 6 months then the school is not for you. Also just email your professors most of them care and they only have 5 days to grade not ten. I do not recommend this college for a masters here this is a awesome college to get you in the door for high education.”Jeankess

“Liked this school at first but now I am taking some of the courses and the material does not match the tests. I do not know where they are getting their info for the tests. It is not always provided so I end up getting like a 75 or 85 around there on my tests. Also, I have been out of work and they will on differ my payments for two months and that is it. I am still out of a job and can not make my payments. I don’t feel like I am even learning anything that is really going to help me. Seems really watered down and not enough reading material for one course. you get through the courses a little too fast and have plenty of time to relax. Seems like this school is all about just getting your money.”Mike

“I don’t understand all the bad reviews. I have had nothing but a great experience with Ashworth. Their customer service is always friendly, I never needed a textbook (they are all online), and I can finish the course quickly. I currently have 3 courses open and can complete them all within the next 2-3 months. You get a nice discount if you pay for the whole semester at once which I really like. The only bad thing I can say about them is that I still have not received the hard copy of my Associate’s Degree which I completed in November of last year. But after asking they have said they will send it out again and have called to verify my address. If you are able to study on your own and do not need encouragement or guidance, I would recommend Ashworth.”Alexis Avery

“I have an associate of criminal justice degree from this school. And that process was seamless! So this is a two-part review Recently I decided to go back for my bachelor’s in psychology. Due to the fact that the representative gave me the wrong student ID when she signed me up, the process was a nightmare! Ashworth canceled my program, I was on the phone daily and corresponding by email. Each person that I spoke with gave me a different answer and told me how sorry they were. Well since Ashworth canceled me I took that as a sign and I kept it canceled, while they tried to get me to pay for certain things like they tried to get me to pay back the discounts that they gave me, I said hell no! I did get my money back in full for the first semester. Now I’m not saying Ashworth is a terrible School, because I believe all schools can screw up because no one’s perfect. And I am a bit saddened that this happened. But it is what it is ,and I’m going somewhere else now. I’m writing this to let people know if you already have a degree with Ashworth and you want to go back for another degree with Ashworth, please make sure that they give you the same student ID that you had for your 1st degree program!! It’s the difference between a seamless process and a rocky process!!”Renee

“Hello, I’m a current Ashworth student, “I think” and for the longest, I hated this school. Because I thought online school was instructors teaching virtually, but it’s not at all. It’s all book, assay, and test. Ashworth has some great instructors but no one teaches at all.:( This school is all self-taught, Youtube University is what helped me. I finally got the hang of it. I believe I signed up for school in 2018 and now it’s 2021. I took a break from school in 2019 but started back in 2020 and Covid hit. I called them to cancel because I was not in the right state of mind to be taking classes for so many obvious reasons but they told me I would have to pay more money if I take a break. I didn’t know what to do but I didn’t do any school work that whole year. By 2021 I started back and doing great but I’ve been in school for four years and with Ashworth, they will drop you. So now, I feel hopeless now because I finally got in the swing of things and this is what happens.”Andre Gill

“My experience with Ashworth College is amazing. The ROI on my education is that of a great stature. As Warren Buffett informed, that it doesn’t matter what school you attend, the scholastic acumen is based on the individual, not the school. I have not received a failing grade on any one of my exam’s or assignment’s (3.92 GPA). Ashworth still show’s me as 99% completed and is refusing to close out my FINAL Capstone course. Ashworth will not send me my MBA or my final transcript until this class closes. Even though all the assignment’s have been graded and I passed the Capstone course with a grade of 98%. I have called Ashworth’s TERRIBLE customer service representative’s multiple times and submitted about 20 tickets. Ashworth’s HORRIBLE representatives keep telling me that I have to wait and they cannot provide me with a resolution time or even a valid reason why they won’t graduate me. The last representative from Ashworth said “You have to wait for the final course to be closed, that’s it!” Talk about great customer service. Also, managers are never available when you call. The representative’s say they will have a manager call you, when one is available. I’ve yet to have a manager call me back!! “I love this school. I left for a short time before Ashworth started offering Bachelor Degrees, and enrolled in a 4yr institution (yes I have been trying to get my degree that long). The other school was very expensive, and also required much more online time than I had time to give. The guidelines were very strict for someone that had a busy schedule. I was beyond happy when I re-enrolled at Ashworth. I lost a lot of credits through fault of my own, but I was able to quickly get my Associates. Had I not transferred I would have been getting my Bachelors instead of Associates. I lost alot by waiting so long to re-enroll, due to it being computer related classes. Ashworth has been great about working with me, and applying anything that they could dig out from my other studies. I am now not far from my Bachelors and am saddened that they are no longer offering the Masters. I only hope that I can find a school that is similar to Ashworth to get my Masters and Doctorate, but hey lets get one degree at a time, right. I would recommend this school to anyone that already has too much going in life. I would recommend it to anyone that has a disability as well. I have severe anxiety and it works so well for me. Ashworth Online College Review
Ashworth College has become an increasingly popular option for people looking to earn their degrees online. With multiple payment options, flexible study programs, and affordable tuition, it’s easy to see the appeal of studying at Ashworth.
However, if you’re considering enrolling at Ashworth, there are a few things you should take into careful consideration first. The biggest issues: accreditation and lack of federal financial aid.

Let’s take a look at some basic info about Ashworth and then dive into student reviews about the institution.
Ashworth College: the basics
Ashworth College is based in Norcross, GA. The school was founded in 1987, offering a single distance-education course in real estate. From there, the school grew to offer other programs in a variety of disciplines. It now offers associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, in addition to several professional certificates.
All of Ashworth’s classes are offered online—the school doesn’t have a physical campus. However, students will still get the thrill of donning a cap and gown at graduation. Every year, Ashworth holds an in-person graduation ceremony in Atlanta.
In addition to college programs, the school offers online high school and professional certificate programs. College-level offerings include:
- Accounting
- Business Administration
- Master of Business (MBA)
- Computer Information Systems
- Construction Management
- Criminal Justice
- Early Childhood Education

Accreditation
Ashworth College is accredited, but not in the same way that many other colleges are. Ashworth’s accreditation is through the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), a national accrediting body that evaluates online-only and distance-education institutions.
In general, colleges and universities are evaluated and accredited by regional accrediting commissions. These bodies provide peer review of degree programs to ensure that they meet the minimum standards required for students to graduate with a certain level of competence for their chosen area of study.
So what does this mean to you? National accreditation doesn’t always carry the same weight as regional accreditation. That means two things:
- It may be hard to transfer your credits if you decide to study elsewhere.
- Your degree may not be recognized as valid in certain fields.
On the plus side, nationally accredited schools may have less-stringent admission requirements and may be more affordable.
Tip: Think carefully about your education and career goals. Do some research to find out what kind of degree someone in your chosen field would normally have. If you’d like to enter a field that doesn’t necessarily require a degree, a nationally accredited school may be a great choice to boost your knowledge at a reasonable price point.
If you intend on transferring to another school at some point, or intend to pursue a master’s degree later on, it may be safer to stick to regionally accredited institutions.
No financial aid
Unlike most post-secondary schools, Ashworth does not offer or accept financial aid, such as the FAFSA, otherwise known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Why that’s a problem: Even with rock-bottom tuition rates, you may be paying more out-of-pocket than you would with financial aid.
Many students are able to get “free money” for college in the form of federal grants after filling out the FAFSA. The Pell Grant could be worth up to $6,095 per school year. Students with exceptional need may qualify for additional aid in the form of the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), which pays up to $4,000 per year.
See also: How Does The FAFSA Work? What You Need To Know Now
Beyond federal aid, many colleges and universities accept state student aid, and may even offer their own grants and scholarships.
Ashworth also doesn’t accept private student loans. That means if you attend Ashworth, your school is also your lender. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you can graduate without debt. However, it’s wise to make sure you’re not accidentally saying no to financial aid that you might have been eligible for by filling out the FAFSA.
Online student reviews
Now let’s find out what Ashworth’s students and graduates have to say. But first, remember that with any online reviews, it’s important to keep in mind that people are more likely to leave a review after a negative experience. Many schools have more negative than positive sentiments.
In addition, remember that with any school, you get out of it what you put into it. Late payments or incomplete assignments will definitely result in a negative experience. So while we, as readers, want to give the online reviewers the benefit of the doubt that they did what was required of them, it’s still wise to take the reviews with a grain of salt.
In any case, it’s wise to pay attention to complaints that crop up in multiple reviews.
Pro: Affordable
Ashworth is about $84 per credit according to one reviewer, which is in the same price range as a community college. As a point of comparison, Athens Technical College in Athens, GA, is $89 per credit for Georgia residents and $178 for out-of-state students.
Tuition rates vary by program, though, so carefully check the prices your area of interest. (The school’s site notes an average rate of $69 per credit.)
Of course, affordability is only a selling point if your degree accomplishes what you hope it will. Review the section above on accreditation before you enroll.
While we couldn’t find any reviews that specifically remarked on the school’s payment plan, their website states that they offer a variety of payment options, as well as 0% financing to help students graduate debt-free. The school does not, however, accept federal student loan assistance.

Pro: You get to go to a real graduation
Few online-only schools hold in-person graduation ceremonies, but Ashworth is an exception. After all your hard work, receiving you degree in front of family and friends is an excellent way to celebrate your achievement.
The ceremony generally takes place in late summer in Atlanta.
Pro: Can be good for working professionals
One reviewer noted that, in her opinion, it’s unlikely Ashworth will help you break into a new field, but she also stated that an Ashworth certification can be helpful if you’re already a working professional and want to advance in your occupation. She noted that her husband is a police officer and was able to nab a promotion thanks to his attendance at Ashworth.
Pro: Lots of schedule flexibility
Ashworth’s programs are asynchronous, meaning that you can start or finish at any time. There are no particular times you need to login for lectures or group discussions.
You don’t have to wait for a semester to start and you can move at your own pace. Students who want to graduate quickly were able to achieve that, assuming they were able to get all their class materials quickly.
Con: Customer service may be lacking
There were quite a bit of complaints about the school’s customer service. Several reviews noted that students were unable to clear up problems over the phone, that customer service reps were not very friendly, or that they were given the run-around on answers to questions about their enrollment status.
Pro/Con: The schools provides your books
Several students who reviewed the school on Yelp complained that they had problems with their books. The most-common woe was that books were on back-order, which delayed people from starting their coursework right away.
However, other students countered that that their books were available online and they had no issues. One student even noted that the books were included in the cost of tuition.
Ashworth’s website states that some classes use only ebooks which can be accessed online. If a class requires a physical book of some kind, the school states that they will be sent via USPS within 24 hours of your enrollment.
Pro: Help for learning-disabled students
One learning-disabled student wrote a glowing review of the school. The student recounted several experiences with discrimination at other schools, but felt that Ashworth has been both welcoming and helpful. At the time of the review, the student had achieved junior-year status.
Con: Credits may not transfer
As we mentioned above, Ashworth credits may not be recognized by other colleges and universities. Several reviewers noted this roadblock.
However, some students did report successful credit-transfer to other institutions.
Tip: Ashworth has pre-existing transfer agreements with several schools. If you think you may transfer at some point, be sure to check the list and take classes that will count at your potential future school.
Con: Aggressive collections
Many online students complained about billing practices and aggressive collections if they were late with payments. Here, it’s not possible for us to know if the students were making a good-faith effort to make their payments or not, but we did see multiple complaints about this.
Tip: Before you enroll, ask for a copy of their payment policy so you can be clear about what might happen if you fall behind.
Our takeaway
If a college degree is really what you’re after, the accreditation issue makes Ashworth a risk. In addition, the lack of federal financial aid is extremely concerning. The truth is that you may be able to get a degree from an accredited institution at a much-lower cost.
On the flipside, many students reported positive experiences, both in degree and certificate programs.
Tip: Many community colleges now offer online options. Transferring from a community college to an online program at a state school is one of the most-affordable ways to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Since college is such a big investment, it’s always wise to do a bit of comparison shopping before enrolling anywhere. With so many online education programs popping up these days, you’ll certainly have plenty of options to choose from.
