Tuition and fees are charged every term including summer unless you are on an authorized leave of absence prior to week 3. Your tuition and student fees are due the second week of the term (see dates and deadlines for specific dates). If you enroll later in the term, you will be responsible for paying immediately.

A 2% late fee penalty will be assessed after the payment due date and on the 1st of each month thereafter (24% per annum).  Please note that the 2% is not an interest rate. It is a 2% penalty charge on any outstanding fees that you may have after the payment due date. You are liable for any penalty charges applied to your account.

To avoid late penalty charges, it is important to pay all outstanding fees while your request is being processed (opt out, withdrawal or another fee adjustment). If your request is granted, the amount approved will be returned to your student account and can be used to pay future fees or you can request a refund from Student Accounts.

How Much Is Tuition At Simon Fraser University?

At Simon Fraser, tuition and fees are based primarily on the number of courses you enroll in. A typical course is worth three units. Also, SFU tuition fees vary from domestic to international students, study programs, and levels.

However, irrespective of your nationality, study program or level, prospective students are to budget from $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover tuition and mandatory supplementary fees.

It is also important to note that further funding, in the form of a living allowance, may be offered by SFU to support exceptionally talented students with demonstrated financial need.

What Is The Deadline For SFU Tuition Payment?

Generally, at Simon Fraser University, tuition fees are due for payment at the end of Week 2 each term. Below are the specified deadlines for tuition payment and refunds/penalties:

January 20 (Monday) (extended due to snow)	Deadline to pay tuition and student fees. A 2% late fee penalty will be assessed after the due date and on the first of each month thereafter.
February 21 (Friday)	Deadline to pay Co-op Practicum fees.
Refunds/penalties
January 12 (Sunday)	Last day to drop a class for a 100% refund of tuition. For Mandatory Supplementary Course Fee refunds, please check with the department/faculty regarding the specific deadline.
January 19 (Sunday)	Last day for 75% refund of tuition. Last day for refund of student fees (Student Services, Recreation-Athletics, and Student Activity). A 2% late fee penalty will be assessed on the outstanding balance after tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
January 26 (Sunday)	Last day for 50% refund of tuition. No refund of student fees. A 2% late fee penalty will be assessed on the outstanding balance after the tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
January 27 (Monday)	No refund for courses dropped. A 2% late fee penalty will be assessed on the outstanding balance after tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
February 21 (Friday) after 10:00 am, and every month thereafter	If you have not enrolled in direct deposit, refund cheques requested for overpayment (which are not related to scholarships and bursaries*) are available for pickup at Burnaby campus, unless payment has been made by personal cheque (which requires a 45 day clearance period).

Simon Fraser University Admission Requirements For International Students

Graduate Certificate Or Diploma

Admission to a graduate certificate or diploma require a minimum of:

• a bachelor’s degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution
• a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.33 scale
• submitted evidence, usually references from qualified referees, of the applicant’s ability to undertake advanced work in the area of interest
• proof of English Language proficiency

Master’s Program

Admission to a master’s program require a minimum of:

• a bachelor’s degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution
• a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.33 scale, or 3.33 on a 4.33 scale (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses. All graduate work is also considered.
• submitted evidence, usually references from qualified referees, of the applicant’s ability to undertake advanced studies in the area of interest.
• proof of English Language proficiency

In exceptional circumstances, a student may be admitted with lower formal qualifications when there is significant experience relevant to the proposed area of scholarship.

Doctoral Program

Admission to a doctoral program require a minimum of:

• submitted evidence, usually references from qualified referees, of the applicant’s ability to undertake advanced studies in the area of interest.
• Proof of English Language proficiency
• a master’s degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution

OR

• a bachelor’s degree, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5/4.33, or a grade point average of at least 3.67/4.33 (A-) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses. Students admitted directly from a bachelor’s degree must complete at least 50% of the course work units required for the relevant program’s master’s program if no course work is required as part of the doctoral degree;

OR

• completion of at least 75% of the course work units required for the relevant program’s master’s program, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.
