PUBLIC NOTICE OF UPCOMING ACCREDITATION REVIEW VISIT BY THE ACEN
The Albany Technical College wishes to announce that it will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its Associate of Science Nursing Program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
You are invited to meet with the site visit team and share your comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled at 3pm on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, in Room 120 of the Nathaniel Cross, Health Care Technology building located at 1704 S. Slappey Blvd. Albany, Georgia.

Program Description
The two year associate level nursing program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for positions in the nursing profession. The curriculum is designed to produce highly trained, technically advanced, competent and caring individuals who are prepared to practice professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. The purpose of the program is to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to practice competently and safely as a beginning nurse generalist in a variety of healthcare settings. The nurse is viewed as a caring holistic person who possesses critical thinking/problem solving skills, integrity, accountability, a theoretical knowledge base, refined psychomotor skills, and a commitment to life-long learning. Graduates from the program will receive an Associate of Science Nursing degree. Program graduates who meet exit requirements will be eligible to apply to the Georgia Board of Nursing to write the national licensure examination (NCLEX) to become registered nurses (RNs).
Nature of the Work
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members, before and after surgical care, long term care, and end of life care.
Employment
The employment, or size, of the nursing occupation in 2014, which is the base year of the 2014-2024 employment projections was 2,751,000. The projected numeric change in employment from 2014 to 2024 is an increase of 439,300 jobs.
Job Outlook
Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventive care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby-boom population, as they live longer and more active lives.
Earnings
The median annual wage for registered nurses was $67,490 in May 2015. In the percentile wage estimates, the lowest 10 percent earned $46,360 ($22.29/hour) and the top 10 percent earned $101,630 ($48.86/hour) in May 2015.

Albany Technical College RN Program Named #1 in Recent Ranking
ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College’s Associate of Science (ASN) in Nursing (RN) program was recently ranked number one by a ranking conducted by RegisteredNursing.org. The ranking was based on the student pass rates on the NCLEX-RN exam.
The NCLEX-RN exam is used by all state boards of nursing across the United States to help assess a student’s competency and is required for licensure. Also, many state boards of nursing use the total overall NCLEX-RN pass rate for a school as one of the main ways to approve a school’s ability to provide a nursing education in the state. The pass rates are one of the best ways to determine a nursing program’s student preparedness.
Obtaining five years of information from 2011 to 2015, RegisteredNursing.org’s methodology began with collecting NCLEX-RN exam pass rates for all RN programs (ADN, BSN, Direct-Entry MSN) state by state through several methods, including making a number of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Once the data was obtained, they filtered out the programs with the following characteristics:
• Programs that have closed or will be closing at the time of data collecting
• Programs with no pass rate data available for the previous one or two years, depending on
the state and number of years of data available
• Programs with only one year of pass rates
In the state of Georgia, 40 schools were analyzed and only 10 schools ranked, with Albany Technical College leading the ranking. Albany Tech started the RN program in 2013 with just 24 students in the first cohort and graduated the first class in 2015 with 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX-RN.
“I am pleased to say that our ATC Nursing Program is really thriving,” said Dr. Latrona Lanier, Chair of the ASN Program at Albany Tech. “We have a 100 percent Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) pass rate and 100 percent of our graduates have received employment throughout the community.”
Lanier attributes these achievements to the devoted nursing faculty, who she says are driven to ensure ATC students succeed and they also motivate students who are eager to learn.
“We provide individualized student learning in our program and it is this attention to detail that earned our nursing program the distinguished honor of being voted the #1 Nursing Program in the state of Georgia,” said Lanier. “We are all thrilled to have such an honor bestowed upon our program.”
The spring semester has brought substantial increase since the program’s inception, with 56 students currently enrolled in the program. With added faculty, the program has been able to expand and add more students to the roster, which has doubled the program’s enrollment numbers over a span of two years.
