The University of Trento has been ranked in top positions by national rankings, and it is well positioned in international ones. This result is due, in particular, to the University’s success in research and to its ability to look towards Europe and the world.

The University gained recognition at international level, as confirmed by independent sources such as THE-Times Higher Education Rankings and QS-Quacquarelli Sysmonds.

Trento earned a good position in the World University Ranking 2022 by the Times Higher Education magazine, which ranks the best universities on the planet and examined 2,122 universities worldwide. The University ranked in the 351-400 group,  and is the tenth among 51 Italian universities.

The University of Trento is now ranked 440th among the 1,300 universities ranked overall in QS World University Rankings 2022, and is in the 34% of the top universities worldwide. Of the 41 Italian universities included in the ranking, UniTrento is 10th, once again thanks to its scientific output. In the QS Graduate Employability Ranking, the graduates from UniTrento are in the 251-300 group.

Trento also leads the Censis ranking 2021-2022 of medium sized universities, those with 10,000 to 20,000 students, for the third year in a row. With 97.3/110 points, UniTrento obtained the best score in the ranking thanks to the results achieved in three of the six indicators considered, in the areas of “internationalisation” (108 points, with the second-ranked 10 points behind), “communication and digital services” (score awarded for the functionality and content of university websites, 103 points), and “employability” (percentage of master’s graduates who are employed within one year of graduation, 103 points).

The Research Quality Assessment (VQR) conducted by Italian universities in the 2011-2014 term, released by ANVUR at the end of December 2016, confirmed the University of Trento in top position among State universities, and sixth in the general ranking which also included institutions of higher learning and research institutes like Sant’Anna or the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.

The VQR data form the basis for the distribution of the part of the 2016 Ordinary Financing Fund that is allocated according to merit to (State and non-State) universities.

second Research Quality Assessment, released in February 2017, confirmed the quality of research at the University of Trento in four different academic disciplines: physics, biology, psychology, political and social sciences.

The data are presented based on the size of universities and reflect the academic area under investigation, with (again) very positive results for the University of Trento, which in fact ranks first among medium-sized universities in the areas of psychology and political and social sciences, and third in the areas of physics and biology (among small universities).
