The Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) Program helps established professionals like you to either take the next step in your career or transition to a leadership roleโbe it in government or any sector of society where public-minded leaders are making a difference.
The Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree is designed to be flexible, allowing you to create a 64-credit study plan that integrates across disciplines and reflects your academic interests as well as your personal and professional aspirations.
You design the curriculum
As an established professional with real-world experience, you design your own study plan. And as an MC/MPA student, you have the freedom to pursue your intellectual interests, develop new capabilities, expose yourself to new approaches and methods, and advance your career.

Programme Structure
The MC/MPA Program consists of the Mid-Career Summer Program and two semesters of full-time coursework in residence at Harvard Kennedy School. Students must complete at least 8 credits to earn the MPA degree.
Students design their own study plans, in consultation with their HKS advisors and mentors, and have the opportunity to choose from any of thecourses offered. Their only degree program requirement is to take at least one course from a preapproved list in each of the following three areas:
- Economics and Quantitative Analysis
- Management and Leadership
- Political Thought and Institutions
The Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) Program consists of the Mid-Career Summer Program, the Mason Fall Launch for our Mason Fellows, and two semesters of full-time coursework in residence at Harvard Kennedy School. You design your own study plan in consultation with your HKS advisors and mentors.
To graduate, you must:
- Earn at least 32 credits
- Finish with a GPA of B or better
- Matriculate as a full-time, in-residence student and take between 12 to 20 credits per semester
- Satisfy the distribution requirements by completing at least one 4-credit course (or two 2-credit modules) with a grade of B- or better in each of the following three areas from a pre-approved list: Economics & Quantitative Analysis; Management, Leadership, and Decision Sciences; and Public Ethics and Political Institutions
