Application Decisions and Notifications
Applicants may track the status of their application via the Applicant Portal. Successful applicants will receive an Offer of Admission via the portal. Applicants must accept or decline the offer. Offers of admission will typically be made within 2 months of the application deadline. Upon acceptance of the offer of admission, students may register for courses in Bear Tracks. Once the offer of admission has been accepted, all correspondence between the student and the Department will be via the student’s ualberta email only with the exception of students from China. The admission offer will not include an offer of funding. Funding offers are made separately by the Department and include instructions on how to accept or decline the offer with a deadline for doing so. Funding offers will be sent to the email address provided on the application. Funds are extremely limited and funding offers are made on a competitive basis to relatively few students. Funding offers will be made within 2 months of the application deadline.
Upon recommendation of the Application Review Committee, a student with a strong application who is not yet fully qualified to enter the Master’s program, may be offered admission as a qualifying student. The applicant will then be required to complete 8 advanced level undergraduate Economics courses. Upon successful completion with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 the student will be transferred to the Master of Arts program. There is no application to be a qualifying student – this is upon recommendation by the Review Committee only. Qualifying students are not eligible for funding.
