Iowa State Vet School Requirements

The Doctor of Vetenary Medicine (DVM) program at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a four-year program that is traditional and thorough. The first two years are spent building a firm foundation in basic science and preparing students for clinical experiences in the last two years. The program includes a wide range of animal species and disciplines. Students spend the last year working with private practitioners, visiting other schools, conducting research, and participating in other activities. Ames, Iowa is home to Iowa Veterinary College. By the end of the spring semester of matriculation, all applicants must have completed 60 credits. All prerequisite courses must be passed with a grade of C or above. Prerequisite scientific courses should be completed by the end of the fall semester the year before the student applies. Work While you Study

Students on F-1 visas are allowed to work either on-campus or off-campus while studying at Iowa State University. They can work for a maximum limit of 20 hours per week when school is in session.
