Financial Aid & Scholarships
Most students in our program qualify for financial aid and/or scholarships. We encourage students to plan ahead and apply for all opportunities they qualify for. The most commonly used forms of funding are Financial Aid, Washington Scholars (the Early Achievers fund run by Childcare Aware), Workforce Education funding, the Bainum Family Foundation Scholarship, the Education Fund, and NE Page. Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for eligible students. Students will need to complete one of the online Financial Aid Applications and submit all required documents to the Financial Aid Office. Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa. Those unable to complete the FAFSA due to citizenship should complete the Washing Application for Student Financial Aid (WASFA) at https://readysetgrad.wa.gov/wasfa-washington-application-state-financial-aid. Additional information, deadlines, etc. are available online. Even if you have missed the deadline, you are still encouraged to apply at your earliest opportunity.

Washington Scholars Program
Students working for an Early Achievers site are also encouraged to apply for scholarships through Child Care Aware’s Washington Scholars Program. The priority application deadline for the bachelor’s completion scholarship for winter 2016 was November 15, 2015, but Child Care Aware encourages you to apply even if you have missed the deadline.

Bainum Family Foundation Scholarship
Students who are admitted to and enrolled in the ECE BAS program are eligible to apply for this private quarterly scholarship which can be used toward tuition and fees. It is a “last dollar” scholarship, meaning that students must first complete a FAFSA or WASFA before their application will be considered. However, this scholarship is not dependent upon income or workplace, but rather works to cover gaps in tuition and fees on a quarterly basis for any student officially enrolled in the program.

Workforce Education Funding
Workforce Education’s various tuition assistance programs are designed to help you access the education you need to achieve your personal and professional goals. If you qualify, you may receive funding for tuition and fees. You may also be eligible for help with textbooks, required supplies, a student ID card,  a parking permit or ORCA transit pass. Take the Start Next Quarter survey to find out if you pre-qualify for funding. More information can be found at northseattle.edu/workforce-education.

Seattle Preschool Program
Students working for the new Seattle Preschool Program sites are encouraged to apply for funding through the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning. If you currently work in an SPP classroom and have been accepted into the B.A.S. program, please contact Julius Moss at julius.moss@seattle.gov to apply.

Seattle Housing Authority Scholarships
Those who are tenants with Seattle Housing Authority may be eligible for scholarships that can be used toward the B.A.S. program. Please learn more about the scholarships here. If you are interested in applying, please attend an Opportunity Workshop session (upcoming dates listed at their website) or contact Rachel Andre, Seattle College’s industry partnership navigator, at rachel.andre@seattlecolleges.org or (206) 934-3802.

Seattle Colleges Foundation and More
North Seattle College has information about a variety of scholarships here. Students who are currently enrolled at North are particularly encouraged to apply for Seattle Colleges Foundation Scholarships. Students apply in the spring for Fall Quarter. If you have already begun the B.A.S. program, it is not too late to apply for next fall!

Washington Scholarships Clearinghouse

Washington Women in Need
WWIN offers education grants to assist with the costs of higher education.

Ida Mary L. and Ervin R. NePage Foundation
The Ida Mary L. and Ervin R. NePage Foundation is established by the Ervin R. NePage Trust and is administered by the Trust Division of U.S. Bank of Washington.
The purpose of the foundation is to grant scholarships to worthy students attending Seattle Colleges who are enrolled in nursing or social sciences (including early childhood education). (*At NSC nursing and ECE are the only eligible programs.)  

Important Note
Candidates are highly encouraged to complete the FAFSA and any pertinent scholarship applications at the earliest possible opportunity. Some students who did not expect to receive funding through the FAFSA were pleasantly surprised, and some scholarships require that students apply to the FAFSA first. As a result, we urge all students to apply.

Seattle Milk Fund
The Seattle Milk Fund offers a childcare grant program for custodial parents with children in a licensed childcare facility.  Students must be working toward their first degree and taking at least 12 credit hours per quarter. Find details at www.seattlemilkfund.org/requirements/.

CareerConnect
CareerConnect is a jobs training program funded by Seattle Jobs Initiative (SJI) that helps with the first certificate on the ECE pathway, the State Initial Certificate (EDUC& 115, ECED& 120, ECED& 107). Students meeting income eligibility requirements who are planning to enter this career field may qualify for navigation and financial assistance through this program. At North Seattle College, students registered for or planning to register for Early Childhood Education state initial certification may apply for CareerConnect by contacting Galila Getahun at galilag@nhwa.org, (206)-788-6951 at the NSC Workforce Education office. In addition to navigation and financial assistance, Career Connect includes support services like transportation, job readiness and job placement assistance.

Community Organizations: 
Check with the organizations you’re involved with in your community, sometimes local organization chapters, honor societies, or churches have funds to help support college students. This goes for community foundations as well such as the Seattle Foundation, the Pride Foundation and the Tacoma Community Foundation.

Banks: 
Your bank or credit union may offer a scholarship program for its members. For example, BECU has a scholarship program.

The WashBoard: 
WashBoard is a site made for students in Washington State to search for scholarships. You’ll have to make a full profile (similar to a scholarship application) to be matched with results, but this will help weed out scholarships like “Future Teachers of Minnesota” since it’s focused on WA residents. Sometimes the application dates on this site are old, but it should lead you to scholarship programs that are a good fit.

Google Search: The internet can also be useful, but you have to be specific in the way you search. Think about different ways to describe yourself including:

• Field of study, degree level
• Gender / Age
• Race/ethnicity/background
• Special status (veteran, military family, public servant, etc.)
• Affiliations or Memberships –  Rotary International, National MS Society, State or National Professional Associations.

Financial aid staff are available to serve students over the phone, by email, and in online appointments. Current students may schedule an appointment with their financial aid advisor directly through Starfish or by email. Instructions for scheduling an appointment in Starfish is available here.

Financial Aid

North Seattle College’s Financial Aid Office works to support racial equity and to increase opportunities for student access to and success in higher education by helping students and seek, obtain, and understand all financial resources available to them. The Financial Aid Office provides information on student aid eligibility, types of aid available, and policies and guidelines for federal, state and institutional programs. Financial aid staff can assist you in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) or answer any questions along the way. Financial Aid staff will serve you well. Please watch our short video below for an overview of the application process.
