Huron has one of the highest entering admission averages among Canadian institutions. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA

  • Completion of the entire IB Diploma including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay.
  • A minimum of 6 subjects of which 3 must at the Higher Level
  • There are no specific subject prerequisites for Social Science and Arts programs. However, for Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) programs only, one of the following subjects are required as a prerequisite on the SL or HL level:
    • Mathematics Applications & Interpretation
    • Mathematics Analysis & Approaches

Applicants currently completing an IB Diploma program will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of predicted grades (including points awarded for Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay). When you apply to Huron, please upload your Predicted IB results to your Huron Application Portal.

Transfer Credits: IB applicants who have successfully completed the IB Diploma and meet Huron’s admission criteria, are eligible for transfer credit consideration for each Higher Level subject with a score of 5 or higher.

BRITISH PATTERNED SYSTEM (G.C.E)

  • Three distinct Advanced Level (A-Level) or four distinct Advanced Subsidiary (AS-Level) subjects. Two AS-Level exams will be considered as equivalent to one A-Level exam.

Applicants will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of predicted results while in progress in the GCE Advanced Level/Advanced Subsidiary Level courses. When you apply to Huron, please upload your predicted A-Level and/or AS-Level results and final O-Level/IGSE/GCSE results to your Huron Application Portal.

Transfer Credits: Students who receive a ‘B’ grade or higher on final GCE A-Level exams will receive transfer credit for those courses approved by the appropriate faculty.

Final GCE Advanced Level and/or Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level results must be sent directly to Huron from the examining boards as listed below:

  • AQA: Confirmation of Results to a Third Party
  • Cambridge (CIE):  Certifying Statement of Results
  • Edexcel: Certifying Statement of Results
  • OCR: Certifying Statement of Results

Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.

Note: Provisional results (i.e. A Statement of Results, Provisional Results Information, Candidate Statement of Provisional Results) will be used for a preliminary evaluation of the final grades until the certificate / certifying statements become available in the fall. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor.

U.S. HIGH SCHOOL / ACCREDITATION

Applicants following an American stream of education in an International School with one of the following accreditations will be reviewed under the guidelines for U.S. applicants: MSACS, NEASC, Cognia, NWCCU, SACS, SABIS, NCA, WASC.

  • Academic transcript including graduation status indicating all subjects taken and grades earnedApplicants may be considered for conditional admission on the basis of mid-year/mid-term results.
    • Admission will be considered based on a minimum of 4.0 full senior academic courses, including English, for Social Science and Arts programs.
    • Admission will be considered based on a minimum of 4.0 full senior academic courses, including English and Math, for Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) programs

Notice for September 2022 Applicants: Due to the current circumstances affecting global examination centres worldwide, Huron has adopted a test optional policy for students applying for September 2022 admission. If you are not able to submit an SAT/ACT score, it will not negatively affect your application. If you already have or plan to take the SAT/ACT, we will still accept your scores, if you wish to submit them.

  • SAT Reasoning Test results (combined Evidence Based Reading and Writing + Math) must submitted directly by the College Board. Our institution number is 0984. Or, ACT Test results submitted directly by ACT Institutional Services. Our institution number is 4837.

Transfer Credits: Advanced Placement (AP) external exam results of 4 or 5 are eligible for transfer credit consideration. Results must be submitted directly by the College Board. Our institution number is 0984

INDIAN PATTERNED SYSTEM (CBSE/ISC)

Results of Standard XII submitted via one of the following:

  • CBSE – All India Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (AISSSCE); or
  • CISCE – Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE);

Applicants will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of predicted or mid-year Class XII results. When you apply to Huron, please upload your predicted or mid-year Class XII results to your Huron Application Portal to be considered for conditional admission.

Results of Standard X must also be provided as an academic record. However, all admission decisions will ultimately be based on Standard XII results.

Students in all streams (e.g. Commerce, Science or Humanities) are eligible to apply to any program at Huron (Social Science, Arts and/or Management and Organizational Studies).

For our Management and Organizational Studies (Business) Class XII Math is recommended, but not required for admission.

CARIBBEAN ADVANCED PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CAPE)

  • CAPE Certifying Statement of Performance; the complete diploma is required. Applicants will be assessed based on the best 4 subjects (6 units total) form both Unit 1 and Unit 2
  • Applicants may be considered for conditional admission on the basis of predicted results. Predicted Unit 2 results, final Unit 1 results and CSEC are required. If you are issued a conditional offer of admission you will be required to have your final official CAPE Certifying Statement of Performance sent directly from the CXC.
  • CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) results are required. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable. GCSE/O-level results may be considered in lieu of CSEC.

Transfer Credits: Students may receive transfer credit for CAPE courses approved by the appropriate faculty, as long as the applicant has both units of the subject.

CANADIAN PROVINCIAL CURRICULUM

Applicants following a Canadian Provincial Curriculum in an International School will be reviewed under the following guidelines:

INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TRANSFER

Individuals applying as transfer students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in all previous university studies at an accredited degree-granting institution and have experienced no extensive academic difficulty to be considered for admission.

If you are attending university and are in first-year, a conditional admissions decision may be made based on strong first year, first semester results and a strong final secondary school average. If you are in second year or higher, you will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of a mid-year transcript.

Post-secondary transcripts from any and all post-secondary institutions attended are required.  Academic transcripts must be submitted directly to Huron from the institution(s) attended. If your documents are issued in a language other than English, you must also provide notarized literal English translations.

Transfer credit may be granted for courses completed at another accredited university with a minimum mark of 60% (in the context of Huron’s grading scale) in each course to be transferred. These courses must be recognized as covering an acceptable amount of subject matter and meet the academic standards of Huron.

The Admissions Office and the Chair of the program to which the student has been admitted shall have sole jurisdiction over the granting of transfer credit.

Note:

  • Credits granted may be either generic/non-specific credits or exact equivalency credits.
  • Courses from universities outside of North America must be individually assessed to determine if they are eligible for transfer credit.
  • Official course descriptions or syllabi including credit hours, year level of study and description of course content including text(s) used will be required to assess your credits for transfer. A copy of both the original and a certified copy of the English translation (where applicable) is required.
  • Courses from a recognized accredited international university will be eligible for transfer subject to degree, grade and program requirements when there is an essential equivalency in course content.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

If you have not studied for a minimum of four years (including the final year) in an institution where the principal language of instruction is English, you are required to submit a satisfactory English Language Proficiency test score.

Huron requires one of the following:

Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency, 176, with no less than 169 on any section.

DuoLingo, 115, subscore results must be submitted, with no section less than 100. Note: this exam is being accepted for Fall/Winter 2021 if no other approved test option is available.

CanTEST, 4.0, with no less than 4.0 on any section.
