Baruch Zicklin School of Business Overview

Established in 1919, Baruch College, CUNY is a non-profit public state higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the large metropolis of New York City (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), New York. Officially accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Baruch College, CUNY (Baruch) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational US higher education institution. Baruch College, CUNY (Baruch) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 101 years old US higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students’ past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 30-40% making this US higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. Ross University School of Medicine Barbados Academic Facilities

The Ross University School of Medicine Barbados campus is designed to provide a contemporary learning environment that will prepare today’s medical students to meet the complex needs of their future patients. Among the facility’s most significant features are the clinical learning laboratories.

Anatomy & Radiology Imaging Lab

At RUSM, students use such medical imaging technology as touchscreen monitors and digital anatomy tables to easily review anatomical and radiological images. Students may view normal and abnormal pathological and diagnostic images to review clinical cases for a comprehensive clinical anatomy and radiology classroom experience. Students evaluate such medical images as MRIs, X-rays, and CT Scans, and they can develop the skills to determine the diagnosis and type of treatment a patient may need.

Simulation Labs

The RUSM facilities replicate a typical hospital setting. Each space is equipped with current medical technologies and Human Patient Simulators to help prepare students for quality care. Students are able to imitate complex, real-life patient scenarios, enhancing their clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Exam Rooms

RUSM exam rooms are designed to replicate the outpatient setting and are fully equipped to resemble contemporary medical exam rooms. Simulations involving standardized patients are designed to teach and evaluate students’ history taking, examination, and communication skills.

Physiology Lab

The Ross University School of Medicine Barbados campus is fully equipped with an array of progressive human research technologies. The lab is dedicated to exploring the physiological function and regulation of major organ systems and their components in the human body.

Pathology Lab

The RUSM campus features a contemporary microscopy lab. Students have access to microscope demonstrations and evaluation tests, and they can analyze bodily fluids and tissue slides, further developing their knowledge in chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology, and molecular pathology. Pathology Lab equipment is available to complete assignments in the Medical Sciences curriculum.

Eligibility And Admission Criteria

Application Process

Undergraduate admissions into the Zicklin School of Business depends on students meeting certain eligibility requirements. An application is not required to enter the school; however, in order to be considered for admission, students must have an intended Zicklin plan (major) on their CUNYfirst account. Students who fulfill requirements below will be reviewed for admission after all semester grades are in. Find out more about the admissions process and eligibility requirements below.

Prospective Students

Prospective students not already admitted into Baruch College should contact Baruch Undergraduate Admissions. The Zicklin Undergraduate Programs Office does not make decisions on admission into Baruch College.

Intended Plan Check

In order to be considered for admission, students must have an intended Zicklin BBA plan of one of the business majors on their CUNYfirst account. Students can check their CUNYfirst Student Center (click “My Academics” link) to see if their plan (major) is correct.

• Students who have “Undeclared” as their plan or have an intended plan offered in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences or the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, but wish to be admitted into Zicklin, must complete a change of intended major form and submit the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.
• Students who have been officially admitted into the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences or the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs must first visit the respective Dean’s Office to have their “Officially Accepted” service indicator released and student group inactivated from CUNYfirst and then submit an intended major form to change their plan at the Office of the Registrar.

Eligibility Requirements (Admitted to Baruch Fall 2021 onward)Students have three possible paths for admission into the Zicklin School of Business to pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.

Path 1 – Direct Admission:

Students who have been admitted to the following programs at Baruch and declared an intended BBA plan, are eligible to be admitted into the Zicklin BBA program.

• Macaulay honors
• Baruch scholars
• Provost scholars (transfer students and current Baruch students)
• Inquiry scholars
• Dean’s scholars

Path 2 – Early Entry:

Students need to satisfy all of the following criteria:

• Completion of 4 pre-business courses with a minimum 2.25 GPA^{1, 2, 3}
  • ACC 2101 Principles of Accounting
  • ECO 1001 Microeconomics
  • ECO 1002 Macroeconomics
  • STA 2000 Business Statistics I
•  Completion of at least 30 credits with an overall Baruch GPA^4,5 of 2.25 or higher

Path 3 – Regular Entry:

Students need to satisfy all of the following criteria:

• Completion of COM 2020 Introduction to Business Communication and ENG 2150 Writing II
• Completion of 7 pre-business courses with a minimum 2.25 GPA^{1, 2}
  • ACC 2101 Principles of Accounting
  • CIS 2200 Introduction to Information Systems and Technologies
  • ECO 1001 Microeconomics
  • ECO 1002 Macroeconomics
  • ENG 2100 Writing I
  • LAW 1101 Fundamentals of Business Law
  • STA 2000 Business Statistics I
• Completion of at least 45 credits with an overall Baruch GPA^4,5 of 2.25 or higher

¹ AP credits will not be used in calculating the GPA.

² Transferred credit grades will be used in calculating the GPA with the exception of international grades which are not transferred.

³ Students who do not meet the GPA requirement in the early entry path have the option of choosing the regular entry path.

⁴ New transfer students who have completed all pre-business courses prior to transfer will be eligible for admission to Zicklin without a Baruch GPA.

⁵ Students with unresolved INC or PEN grades will not be evaluated for admission until those grades are resolved.

Requirements that apply to all business majors:

Students admitted to the Zicklin School of Business are required to complete the following courses before they can enroll in any business major courses that are 4000-level or above:

• QNT 2020 Foundations of Predictive Analytics and Decision Modeling^†

^† STA 4155 and OPR 3450 overlap with QNT 2020. STA 4155 and OPR 3450 are required courses for SQM majors. Hence, students majoring in Statistics and Quantitative Modeling (SQM) are waived from the requirement to complete QNT 2020 upon successful completion of OPR 3450 or STA 4155. SQM majors are required to complete one of the calculus courses (MTH 2205/MTH 2207/MTH 2610).

Transfer Credits and e-Permit Grades

It is the student’s responsibility to:

1. Transfer students should follow up with the Transfer Center if there are any missing transfer grades. Additionally, incoming transfer students who are completing their pre-business courses at their previous school must wait until theses grades have been submitted and appear on their CUNYfirst Baruch transcript to be evaluated for Zicklin eligibility.
2. Students taking any last pre-business courses on permit at another institution must ensure their final grades are sent to Baruch College’s Registrar’s Office. Permit grades have to appear on students’ Baruch transcript in order to be evaluated for Zicklin eligibility.

Review Process & Acceptance

Admission review begins after the previous semester’s final grades are posted and are processed in batches within two weeks. Students whose grades are posted late or have grade changes will be reviewed before the start of registration for the next semester.

• Academic Plan Status / Intended Plan : Must apply — completing pre-business requirements and have not been accepted
  • The Academic Plan Status service indicator does not affect registration and will be released when you have been accepted into Zicklin.
• Accepted into Official Major — officially accepted into Zicklin
  • The Accepted into Official Major service indicator does not affect registration.
• Academic Plan Status / Must Satisfy additional req — Accounting / Finance / International Business majors have additional requirements to satisfy before the major is considered official
  • Refer to the respective major for additional information.
  • The Academic Plan Status service indicator does not affect registration and will be released when you have satisfied requirements to continue with the respective major.

BBA Degree Requirements

Half of the credits required for the Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree focus on arts, sciences and general education to provide graduates with a solid and broad educational foundation. The business curriculum exposes students to ethical values that encourage participation in community affairs, and to an awareness of the relationship between business and the legal, political, and social settings in which it functions. Zicklin undergraduates benefit from a very diverse student community that prepares them for today’s multicultural global business environment.

The BBA program consists of a minimum of 124 credits:

Degree Requirements

• Students must maintain a minimum C average (2.0 GPA) in their degree work
• Students must maintain at minimum C average (2.0 GPA) in their major
  • A minimum of 60% of the credits in the major field must be completed at Baruch College.
• Students must complete a Liberal Arts minor in arts and sciences (See Minor Requirements below).
  • There is no GPA requirement for College Option courses, but to graduate with a liberal arts minor, a student must have a grade point average of at least 2.0 in the three courses that make up the minor.
• Accounting and Finance majors are NOT permitted to take any major courses on ePermit.

Minor Requirements

The minor is included in the liberal arts requirement. It consists of three courses of disciplinary study (in some instances, interdisciplinary study taken at the 3000-level or higher, as outlined below:

• First two courses at 3000-level or higher
• Final capstone course must be a 4000-, 5000-, or 6000-level capstone course.
  • Capstone courses are research oriented and communication intensive.
• Students may choose to complete a second minor in a business discipline using free electives.

Optional Additional 24-30 Credits Concentration in Liberal Arts (effective Spring 2022)

Students in the BBA degree program may complete a concentration in liberal arts based on the requirements of a major from the Weissman school of Arts and Sciences. Students completing a concentration in liberal arts will be subject to all the requirements that apply to the corresponding Weissman major.

The requirement to complete a 9 credit liberal arts minor that fulfills the college option requirement is waived for students who complete a concentration in liberal arts.

Second Degree and Transfer Students

• A transfer student must meet all degree requirements and take a minimum of 31 credits at Baruch for the BBA degree.
• Second degree students cannot major in Accounting.
• A second-degree business student must meet all degree requirements and complete a new specialization and take a minimum of 31 credits at Baruch, of which a minimum of 27 credits must be in business courses.
• None of the courses in the second major can have been used for the previous major if your first undergraduate degree was completed at Baruch.
