Do you have any knowledge about temasek polytechnic ? Do you ever feel confused? Do you often feel overwhelmed with all the information available on temasek polytechnic so you can’t figure out which one is correct? This article will let you know about temasek polytechnic.
Temasek Polytechnic (abbreviation: TP) is a post-secondary academic institution located in Tampines, Singapore. It is the third polytechnic established in the country. Temasek Polytechnic teaches an industry-focused curriculum, which is an alternative to a broader based junior college/pre-university education. Polytechnic graduates in Singapore are sought after for entry level professional positions or well-prepared to complete university degrees. In contrast to polytechnics in the United States and the UK, polytechnics in Singapore admit the majority of their students after secondary school, mostly at the age of 16-17 (before receiving high school education), which is after ten years of formal education. A Temasek Polytechnic diploma in a specialised area of study, for example Law & Management, is awarded after completing three years of academic studies and a industry internship.
Established on April 6, 1990, the campus of the institute sits on a 30 hectare plot near the Bedok Reservoir in the eastern part of Singapore. Temasek Polytechnic features 37 full-time and 40 part-time diploma courses, spread over 6 academic schools. Currently, Temasek Polytechnic has approximately 14,000 full-time students and more than 1,200 academic staff.
Established in 1990, Temasek Polytechnic is an open institution of higher education. It is the third institute of technology in the country. The institute began its first classes with only 735 students. As the number of enrolments increased over the years and new courses were introduced at the institute, the management decided to develop three more campuses within the city. Few departments were shifted to each campus. The institute is the only technological academy in Singapore to have a Centre for Trans-cultural Studies. This centre creates an opportunity for students to have the cross-cultural experience, nationally as well as internationally.
The campus of the institute features 61 lecture theatres, digital classrooms, canteens, a convention centre, an auditorium, an amphitheatre, laboratories, sports complexes, an air-conditioned food court, including three cafes & 13 food outlets, and a library that consist a huge collection of journals, magazines, books, textbooks and research papers & documents. Students can also access the electronic resources available at the library.
The students are provided with all the facilities required at the campus. They experience a calm learning atmosphere at the campus. In 2014, the Aviation Academy was opened at the campus. It houses 700 private jets, specialised laboratories and training equipment for the students of aerospace diploma programmes. Also, the institute is home to the Centre for Trans-cultural Studies. It is known to be the only centre set at a technological institution.
The institute offers diploma, full-time and specialisation programmes. The student population of the institute is about 14,000. The academic structure includes various subjects that are divided into six schools, namely the School of Applied Science, School of Design, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Informatics & Information Technology and School of Humanities & Social Sciences. The students learn under skilled faculty members. Several industry professionals visit the institute for interactive sessions, guest lectures and practical workshops.
The students also get an opportunity to work as interns at notable companies under professionals. The internship programme offered by the institute gives students industry exposure at popular organisations like Four Seasons Safari Lodge in Tanzania, Disney World in the United States and Airbus in France. The institute offers a diploma in a specialised course after a student has completed his three years of academic studies or industry internship.
The institute has a list of some remarkable alumni that includes Priscelia Chan (Actress), Sylvia Ratonel (Singapore Idol Finalist), Ferlyn Wong (Singer), Faris Ramli (Footballer), Jacob Mahler (Footballer), Hady Mirza (Singapore Idol Winner), Xu Bin (Actor & Singer), Dasmond Koh ( Television Host and Founder of the Talent Agency Noontalk Media) and Hong Ling

History
1989-1995
In June 1989, Dr Tony Tan, then the Minister of Education, announced that a third polytechnic is being considered and in April, 1990, Temasek Polytechnic was established with an initial enrolment of 735 students. The institute originally set up at Baharuddin Vocational Institute’s premises at Stirling Road and the vacated premises of Raffles Institution at Grange Road. Due to increased enrolment and the introduction of new courses, three more campuses at Kim Seng, Bukit Merah and Portsdown Road were acquired to house the institutes’ student population.
1995: Moving to a permanent location
In September, 1995, the permanent campus for Temasek Polytechnic was completed and it moved to its current location in the town of Tampines.
2012-present: Logo redesign, construction of foyer
Temasek Polytechnic underwent a logo redesign, sporting a fresh new look to reflect the vibrancy of the school. The TP Auditorium Foyer began construction in 2010 and was completed in 2013. McDonald’s, Subway, and Cheers are available to both staff and the general public.

Polytechnic Foundation Programme
The Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) was introduced in 2011 for students in the Normal Academic stream to be offered an opportunity to gain direct entry into Polytechnic diploma programmes with their ‘N’ level certifications starting from 2012 onwards. Top students of the cohort each year would be offered the programme to skip their ‘O’ level studies and instead enrol into a polytechnic of their choice to complete a foundation year before embarking on their respective diploma programmes. During the foundation year, students would take introductory modules that would expose them to their courses of studies so that they would cope better in their first year. There is no GPA requirement to advance to Year 1, as long as students pass all of their modules during Year 0. Although they would also be graded in Year 0, the GPA will not count towards their cumulative GPA when Year 1 commences.
The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) in Temasek Polytechnic was established in 2011 for students admitted into their PFP studies (Year 0).
