Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students should complete the following course with a minimum of 60% to apply for the program:

  • English: English A Literature or Language (HL or SL), English B HL or IB  Literature and Performance (SL).
  • Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (HL or SL), Applications and Interpretation (HL or SL), Mathematics (HL or SL), Further Mathematics HL, or Math Studies SL.
  • Chemistry HL or SL and Biology HL or SL.

Others:

Students without related academic experience or work experience students are also encouraged to apply, given they have completed the following courses:

  • English
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students must have complete International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
  • Students may have only one grade 12 or senior-level course in a language stream.
  • Students with a minimum of 60% marks can apply for this program with one of these certificates:
    • All India Senior School Certificate
    • Higher Secondary School Certificate
    • Intermediate Certificate
    • Indian School Certificate.
  • Students may have to complete an Academic Communication Certificate (ACC) to take admission.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.


Program Description

  • The University of Calgary offers a Bachelor of Nursing program for a duration of 4 years.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis and consists of practicals, training, and internships.
  • The Bachelor of Nursing program is offered at Medicine Hat College in partnership with the University of Calgary.
  • The major courses of Nursing program are:
    • Anatomy and Physiology I and II
    • Philosophy and Practice in Palliative Care
    • Transitions in Child and Youth Health
    • Addictions and Mental Health Care
    • Exploring Cancer and the Role of the Nurse
  • This program has an integrated curriculum where research professors and Registered Nurses (RN) teach the classroom and clinical experience.
  • Students can complete 1st and 2nd year in Medicine Hat College and then apply to the University of Calgary for the completion of the 3rd and 4th year of their study.
  • The course work includes lectures, hands-on learning in the Clinical Simulation Learning Centre (CSLC), as well as practicum placements in community care facilities.
  • University provides collaborative teamwork on a project in which students interact with their peers while learning.
  • The Nursing degree can also be used as a stepping-stone to another professional degree or further studies at the graduate level.
  • Students are involved in active learning within the classroom, with small clinical groups in a variety of off-campus nursing practice settings, and in simulated clinical laboratories.
  • The program has been accredited by the nationally based Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing.
