Clarkson University is a private research university with its main campus in Potsdam, New York, and additional graduate program and research facilities in the New York Capital Region and Beacon, New York. It was founded in 1896 and has an enrollment of about 4,300 students studying toward bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in each of its schools or institutes: the Institute for a Sustainable Environment, the School of Arts & Sciences, the David D. In Clarkson University Engineering Studies undergraduate major, you can enroll in engineering, beginning with common core curriculum, and wait to declare a major until your second year at Clarkson. This gives you a chance to explore different academic areas, while taking full advantage of all of Clarkson’s resources. These faculty members also conduct world-class research in areas of vital importance — and they involve undergraduates in the process. Hands-On Education

Engineering studies allows you, regardless of your major, to participate in a program called SPEED — Student Projects for Engineering Experience and Design. Clarkson has 12 different SPEED teams that compete with student teams from other universities. The experience will help you sharpen your skills in creative problem solving, collaboration, communication, and leadership. As with all engineering students, you also have access to undergraduate research opportunities. More than 250 undergraduates a year participate in sponsored research. Academic Support & Advising

Students who choose the Engineering Studies program work directly with our Director of Engineering Studies and support faculty members, who assist them in finding the right personalized pathway through engineering. Through a partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Advising, students in the Coulter School of Engineering also have additional resources for advisement.

Students interested in pursuing an internship or co-op opportunity abroad can work with the International Center staff to identify the opportunities available across the globe. Some of these jobs are paid and some are for academic credit.

If you plan to study abroad, search our partner programs to see if they offer help finding Post Study work experience.  You can identify these opportunities by searching CU Global – “Special Features” > “Post Study Work Experience”. 
 
Approved Internship Providers – Clarkson University has signed an MOU with the Academic Internship Council (AIC) and The Intern Group (TIG).  Both of these organizations identify professional internship opportunities for college students in major cities across the globe.  Both AIC and TIG charge a fee that includes housing, visas, and other miscellaneous items depending on the location.  AIC and TIG have close relationships with companies in these international cities and match the companies’ needs for interns with the individual interests of students.  These are very legitimate resources for professional internship opportunities and can provide opportunities to Clarkson students that otherwise would not be able to be secured.
