UCAS is a higher education institution established with the approval of the Ministry of Education, focusing on graduate education. The predecessor of UCAS was the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GSCAS), which was founded in 1978 as the first graduate school in China by approval of the State Council. UCAS graduated the first doctoral student in science, first doctoral student in engineering, first female doctoral student and first student with double doctoral degrees in China. In 2014, UCAS began to recruit undergraduates.
Based on the high-level research advantages and high-level human resources of CAS, UCAS has four campuses in Beijing and five education centers outside Beijing. Backed by 117 CAS institutes throughout China, it implements the guiding principle of โunified enrollment, education management and degree conferment; faculty-instituteโs fusion on leadership, faculty, management and cultivating systemโ. It has expanded and improved the โtwo-phaseโ cultivation mode in which core course teaching is centralized in Beijing campuses, and scientific research were primarily done at the various institutes. This sound education system has enabled UCAS to be the platform as training students and the CAS institutes as the bases of students practicing. At present, there are 41 216 graduate students studying at UCAS, among whom 50% are doctoral students. UCAS has conferred masterโs and doctoral degrees on 109 882 graduate students to date.
UCAS has a highly qualified faculty team consisting of teachers and supervisors from UCAS faculties and CAS institutes and a first-class scientific research environment for students to fulfill scientific research. At present, UCAS has 12 658 academic supervisors, including 330 CAS and/or CAE members and 6 185 doctoral supervisors. At various CAS institutes, there are three National Laboratories, 84 State Key Laboratories, 163 CAS Key Laboratories, 41 National Engineering Research Centers (Laboratories) and numerous national frontier scientific research projects, providing a solid and formidable scientific practice platform for studentโs education.
UCAS has a complete set of disciplinary system with unique advantages that covers a wide range of disciplines. It has a prominent teaching and research environment in mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science and biology in natural science as well as mechanics, materials, energy, electron and communication, automatic control and computers in engineering. UCAS has strengthened its efforts in the development of applied disciplines, new inter-disciplines, humanities and social sciences while maintaining its unique academic advantages.
UCAS has a sound academic system. It has a total of 146 programs offering doctoral degrees in education, nature science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and management science. It also has 170 programs offering masterโs degrees in philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, natural science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and management science. In addition, UCAS also offers one professional doctoral degree program in engineering and masterโs degree programs in engineering, business administration, applied statistics, applied psychology, translation and interpretation, agricultural extension, pharmacy and engineering management. There are 169 post-doctoral research stations in CAS as well.
Totally, 27 senior scientists of CAAS have been invited as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). Nowadays, eleven of them are still serving as the top scientists in the field of research, policy recommendation and consultation etc.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the highest academic institution and R&D centre in China. It has 100 branch institutes and two universities, and has created numerous commercial enterprises, including computer company Lenovo. CAS and TWAS collaborate in the CAS-TWAS Presidentโs Postgraduate Fellowship Programme and the CAS-TWAS Centres of Excellence. In addition, CAS hosts the TWAS Regional Office for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific (ROESEAP).

Chinese Academy Of Engineering

Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of Peopleโs Republic of China, is responsible for the enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs.
The Chinese University Program is one of the Chinese Government Scholarship programs. It is a full scholarship to support Chinese universities to enroll outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. Eligible applicants may submit their applications for the scholarship via UCAS.

Chinese Government provides monthly stipend of RMB 3,500 for Doctoral students and RMB 3,000 for Masterโs students. The total amounts of monthly stipend will be no less than RMB 5000 for Doctoral students and RMB 3500 for Masterโs students.
Accommodation
Awardees should be provided with free accommodation (shared room). For those who choose to live outside UCAS campus with UCAS approval in advance, they will be entitled to an accommodation allowance of RMB 1000/month for Doctoral students and RMB 700/month for Masterโs students.
Medical Insurance
The Insurance would be purchased by the Ministry of Education for awardees.

Requirements on education background and age as follows:
Masterโs degree candidates must hold a Bachelorโs degree or its equivalent and be no more than 40 years old.
Doctoral candidates must hold a Masterโs degree or its equivalent and be no more than 45 years old.
The applicant should not currently study at any Chinese university, while there should be over 1 year after his graduation from a Chinese university before he applies for the scholarship.

Applicants shall fill in and submit the application information via the Online Application System for International Students at UCAS (http://adis.ucas.ac.cn) which would be officially launched around Dec. 15, 2016, and then print the admission application form (Net Version) produced by the system. The previous version of admission application form (Attachment 1) can be used but the applicants shall also complete online application procedure. The second part of the application form should be filled in by the applicantโs supervisor and institute/school. The applicant cannot apply to more than one supervisor or institute/school.

Please fill in and submit the online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn of the China Scholarship Council. Those who have not yet graduated must provide evidence of education from their current institutions, with their expected graduation dates being clearly indicated therein, and submit the original notarized photocopies of degree certificates upon their receipts.
ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPTS OR ORIGINAL NOTARIZED PHOTOCOPIES OF TRANSCRIPTS
Masterโs program applicants shall submit the academic transcripts of their undergraduate study. Doctoral program applicants shall submit academic transcripts of both their graduate and undergraduate studies.
TWO ACADEMIC RECOMMENDATION LETTERS
The referees shall work in the relevant research field with the applicant, and should not be the expected supervisor. The letters must be on the letterhead paper, with the refereeโs signature and date, and be sealed.

Application Procedure
Find an eligible host supervisor affiliated with CAS institute or UCAS school.
Eligible applicants shall prepare application documents as requested above, contact an eligible supervisor and send him/her both hard and soft copies of application documents.
Obtain a host supervisorโs acceptance.
The supervisor checks and evaluates the applicantโs academic ability according to relevant rules of the institute/school. Two or three experts might be invited to conduct a video/telephone interview with the applicant or a written examination may be required. The supervisor decides whether or not to accept the applicant by making comments and signing on the supervisorโs comment page of the admission application form as well as on the Annexed Form, and submits the hard copy of all necessary documents to the institute/school.
CAS institute/UCAS school approves.
The application will be reviewed by the institute/school for them to decide whether or not to accept the applicant. If the application is approved, the institute/school will complete and stamp the comment page of the admission application form as well as the Annexed Form and then send the hard copy of all necessary documents to the UCAS International Students Office.
UCAS makes the final review and prepares admission documents according to the evaluation result.
UCAS will organize evaluation meetings after its final review of all application documents. The admission and visa application documents for chosen applicants are prepared once the expert panels make the final decision.

Result Announcement and Visa Application
Chosen applicants will be recommended to the CSC for its review and verification. Awarded applicantswill be notified by UCAS around late June or early July, and sent the Admission Notice, Award Letter as well as other admission documents.
The awardee shall take his personal passport as used in his application, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW201), and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as all other original reports from the physical examination to the Embassy or Consulate of the People’s Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1/X2 visa). Please keep safe the original Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) which are needed in the application for the Permanent Residence Permit upon registration. Please do not apply for visa waiver or other types of visa.
The admitted student should register at the place indicated in the Admission Notice, and should register on the assigned date. Otherwise, students should apply to UCAS for registration extension.
Other
Any applicant cannot submit his application documents to more than one institute/school or more than one supervisor.
Please take a careful consideration of the research field and major to be picked up, and the application should be submitted upon a discussion with the potential supervisor. After registration, UCAS would not accept any modification application due to the need of major or supervisor change.
All the above supporting documentation should be in English or Chinese, or otherwise notarial translations in English or Chinese are required.
A lack of application documents or unsatisfactory documents will not be accepted. None of the documents will be returned regardless of the applicantโs admission status.

The sponsorship duration is subject to the study period prescribed in the Admission Notice.
Once admitted, students must register on the assigned date in the Admission Notice at the place indicated therein. Otherwise, students should apply to UCAS for early or late registration.
The Program sponsorship could be retained until Oct.15th of the same year as the application. Any awardee who cannot register before Oct.15th would be regarded as giving up his sponsorship.
The stipend will be transferred by UCAS on a monthly basis from the date when the awardee registers. A full-month stipend will be transferred to new awardees who register before the 15th of a given month (including 15th), while a half-month stipend will be transferred to new awardees who register after the 15th of a given month.
After their registration, awardees must abide by relevant regulations for the Chinese Government Scholarship and attend the annual review of their Scholarship status in accordance with the Measures for Annual Review of Chinese Government Scholarship. Awardees who fail the review will be deprived of their Scholarship or their Scholarship will be suspended.
Application for Other Programs of the Chinese Government Scholarship
The competition is fierce in the Chinese University Program, which only generates a limited number of awardees. Eligible applicants could opt to apply for the Bilateral Program, EU Program, AUN Program, PIF Program, etc. Please refer to http://www.csc.edu.cn/Laihua/ as to find out the program details, qualifications of applicants and application procedures. Applications for those programs are open generally between November and the following April, but please be noted of deadline variations for different countries. The International Students Office of UCAS will offer pre-admission notice if needed.
Scholarships in University of Chinese Academy of Sciences for International Student
Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) was established by Beijing Municipal Government, aiming to attract and encourage excellent international students to study in Beijing. The BGS scholarship provides funding for tuition of international students, fully or partially, which should be applied every year. The International Student Section, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is authorized to be responsible for the acceptance, review and approval of BGS applications at UCAS.
According to an agreement between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, CAS-TWAS Presidentโs Fellowship Programme provides students/scholars that are non-Chinese citizens an opportunity to pursue doctoral degrees at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) or Institutes of CAS around China.
UCAS Scholarship for International Students
University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) has set up the UCAS Scholarship for International Students to sponsor young talents all over the world to pursue Masterโs or Doctoral degree, attend courses or conduct research at UCAS campus/CAS institutes. The Scholarship also encourages international graduate students currently studying at foreign universities to pay academic visits to UCAS where they study on joint programs. The Scholarship consists of both a full scholarship and a partial scholarship. The full scholarship provides tuition waiver, monthly stipend, basic accommodation and medical insurance; while the partial scholarship covers some items of the Full. Since 2013, the scholarship has been majorly sponsoring Masterโs degree candidates. 29.4% of the new international students enrolled in 2015 by UCAS are sponsored by the Scholarship
