University of Hawaii: University of Hawaii is the state’s flagship institution and home to a College of Education that currently serves over 1,500 students while employing over 300 faculty members that engage in active research and instruction. The University of Hawaii is only 15 minutes away from downtown Honolulu at the edge of Manoa. The College of Education has several learning partnerships with Hawaii’s Department of Education including both private and public learning institutions. These partnerships provide students with several opportunities to learn within the real-life environment of the classroom while preparing for their careers as educators. The College of Education offers five undergraduate degrees, 18 graduate degrees, nine doctoral degrees and three certificates. The University of Hawaii is a world leader in distance education and offers several of its classes via online instruction. In addition to becoming teachers, students prepare for careers in counseling, administration, and technology.

Chaminade University of Honolulu: Chaminade is currently the only Catholic institution of higher education in the state of Hawaii. The university was founded in 1955 by the Society of Mary and was originally known as St. Louis Jr. College before being renamed Chaminade. The Marianists are well known for their ideals of inclusiveness and progressive thinking. The educational offerings are housed within the Chaminade Education Division which offers students the following degrees: Associate in Science in Education, Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master in Education. Chaminade also confers a fully accredited online bachelor’s degree program in teacher education geared towards students seeking their first teaching credentials. The curriculum is liberal arts based and infused with Marianist ideals that are designed to help the student grow educationally, professionally, personally and spiritually.
