The strong level of professor engagement also sets Duke apart; I became close with many of my professors who served as mentors, advisors, and friends throughout college and even now after graduation. It’s easy to get involved with research, study abroad, or engage in other opportunities that interest you. Duke has a diverse social scene, so there really is a place for everyone, but it can be challenging to navigate the selective organizations. There are hundreds of student groups to join, and most have strong social components too. The food and campus living environment are both superb, and the city of Durham is nearby and nice as well. Duke grads have numerous post-grad opportunities, and I was able to get a great job.

Sophomore: NC State University is a very good school, especially if you are pursuing a career in STEM. There are lots of course options, majors, and minors to choose from and you can make as many appointments as you’d like to talk with your advisor about these classes and which ones would fit your schedule and plan to graduate the most. Furthermore, there are so many resources available to utilize such as the tutorial center which offers group tutoring, one on one tutoring, drop-in tutoring, a writing center, and more! There are also plenty of programs and certificates intended to help people who are trying to become more career-ready such as with mock interviews/resume building/finding opportunities, identifying a major that suits your interests, etc. I think that despite being a large school they give you opportunities to meet with professors or TAs via office hours or after class. Class registration can be a nightmare though, get there early and meet with your advisor before yours opens.

Junior: My overall experience at North Carolina A&T State University has been amazing. I’ve met so many new faces on campus and my academic career there is astounding. Staff at A&T make it a mission for all students to be successful in school and life after graduating. Since I first walked on the campus, the feeling of being welcomed and family has never left. The school spirit is something I’ve never seen before! Aggie staff, students, and alumni love this school and I see why. The love I have for my school is so deep, I will always speak highly of this university. The social events for students have helped me get out of my comfort zone as well. The only things I would change on campus is that the freshman dorms could be renovated, since they are some of the oldest buildings on campus. A&T is an amazing school that I would recommend any high school senior or transfer student to apply for. It’s nothing like being an Aggie!

Junior: I highly enjoy the academic environment at S&T! There are a plethora of great resources, be it academic, personal, or extracurricular. You can always find something to do on campus. The campus itself is well-manicured, and the lawn maintenance crew does excellent upkeep on the plant life. The food leaves a bit to be desired, as there are very limited healthy options in the Havener food court.

nC state engineering requirements
Application review is holistic in nature. However, a student’s high school academic record, including grade point average (weighted and unweighted) and class rank, receives significant emphasis in engineering admissions decisions.
Students who have taken and performed well in advanced courses, particularly in math, chemistry, and physics, are best prepared for the academic rigor of the College and are more competitive in the admissions process. Also considered are standardized test scores (SAT or ACT), and lastly, extracurricular activities and leadership experiences. The typical fall 2018 first-year student admitted to the College has an unweighted grade point average ranging from 3.75 – 4.0. Eighty percent of all new engineering freshmen are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class. The middle 50 percent of incoming 2018 freshmen have SAT scores in the 1340-1450 range and 30-33 on the ACT.

Engineering First Year Program
As of Fall 2012, all freshmen are admitted to the Engineering First Year Program (EFY). Students who know which engineering major they plan to pursue may indicate it on the admissions application as their intended major; their advisor will be a faculty member from that department during the freshman year. Students who are undecided on an intended major will be admitted as “undecided” to the Engineering First Year Program; their freshman advisor will be in the College’s Academic Affairs office. Please note that indication of an intended major on the admissions application has no effect whatsoever on admissions decisions. Students must successfully complete English composition, calculus, chemistry, physics and introductory engineering and computer courses before joining an academic department. EFY students also begin their General Education Program (GEP) electives
