Admission to graduate studies at McGill University for International Students operates on a rolling basis. Application deadlines vary per program. Completed applications and supporting documentation must reach departmental offices on or before the specified application deadline as displayed on the information page of the program to which you are applying. Applications received after this date may not be reviewed for admission.

All applicants, regardless of country of origin or backgrounds must meet these minimum academic requirements:

• Have earned an accredited or recognized university degree (equivalent to a McGill undergraduate degree, Bachelor’s) which would serve as a basis of admission to a graduate degree program at a recognized research-intensive university in the same country.
• The university degree, described above, must have been completed with a minimum standing of 3.0/4.0 or the equivalent, according to grading scale on the transcript.
• Applicants must also meet any academic requirements set by the McGill graduate department to which they are applying. Admission to McGill is competitive and meeting the minimum standard does not guarantee acceptance.

Mcgill Application Deadline Fall 2021

Completed applications and all supporting documents are to be uploaded by no later than January 15th  for Fall (September) admission of the same calendar year in which admission is sought. This deadline is for all applicants (Canada and International). There is no January (Winter) or June-July (Summer) admission. 

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application form and all supporting documents are uploaded by the application deadline.

Admission decisions are usually made within 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline date of January 15. Only completed dossiers with all supporting documents will be considered. However, depending if a large volume of applications have been received, decisions on completed files may be taken 8 to 10 weeks after the deadline date.

Non-Canadian applicants should contact the Canadian Embassy in their home country at least one year prior to program starting date as some countries require students to pass a medical examination.

Application Process:

Create an online account at the official website to start your application after checking all the admission requirements and deadlines carefully.
Select a login ID and PIN and remember it for future usage.
Choose 2 programs of choice (for more choices, apply via a different application form) and fill in the necessary details including test scores and GPA.
Pay a non-refundable application fee while submitting the completed entry form and wait for a confirmation mail from the university.
Note: Unofficial transcripts can be submitted but original documents will be required during enrollment. University encourages students to upload all necessary documents through the university’s application portal instead of sending them through fax or mail.
