There is a rapidly increasing need for highly-qualified nurses across the United States as current nurses retire, as the population ages, and as the population fights newer health-related issues along with existing conditions that requires nursing care.

Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is an ideal way for prospective nurses to start their career or to advance their current nursing career. Although there are benefits to earning a diploma or associate’s degree in nursing, there is documentation that shows the benefits of earning a BSN degree.

Benefits of Completing a Fastest BSN Program

Prospective nurses or nurses that want to advance their career likely wonder if there is truly a difference among registered nurses (RNs) with less education and nurses that hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. There is a variety of benefits, particularly when a student considers completing one of the fastest BSN programs.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing points to information published in the March 2019 issue of The Joint Commission Journal of Quality and Patient Safety that examined the preparedness of nurses with a bachelor’s degree, compared to those that hold an associate’s degree. The study authors revealed that baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses (RNs) reported being significantly better prepared than nurses with an associate’s degree on 12 of 16 areas that are related to evidence-based practice, quality, safety, and other areas.

Results of another study found that as little as a 10 percent increase in the number of baccalaureate-prepared nurses on a hospital unit was directly associated with 10 percent lowered odds of patient mortality.

There are several other benefits of completing a BSN program. One of the obvious is that if you complete one of the fastest BSN programs, you are able to start work or expand your career opportunities faster than if you complete a traditional BSN program, which may require several years of study.
