The Application for Fall 2020 is closed. Applicants will be notified through their Zonemail if their application has been received and if the application is complete. - Graduate with an Associate in Arts in Nursing (see program of study),
- Be qualified to take the National Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) and upon passing, become a registered nurse,
- Continue your educational pursuit for a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN – CSUEB or Roadmap ADN-BSN ) and
- Work within a variety of healthcare settings.

Who can apply?
Anyone is welcome to apply, however …
- You must have a social security number.
- You must complete all pre-requisites by December 31st of the application year.
- You must take and pass the ATI TEAS with 62% Score
- You must have a Chabot Student ID. Apply to Chabot at www.chabotcollege.edu upper right hand corner APPLY
- You must complete an nursing application available November 1 through January 31 of each application year through Class-Web. Instructions, Application Checklist
- Official copy of transcripts from ALL colleges attended must be included in your application packet. If the college only offers electronic transcripts, then for the quickest and most accurate delivery, select the information for Chabot College that already exists in the ordering system.
For any other service, please have your transcripts sent to cc-transcripts@chabotcollege.edu - If you were in the Chabot Nursing program within the last 2 years and want to be readmitted, contact the Nursing Program office.
- If you are currently a LVN, you may be eligible for the LVN to RN program
How applicants are selected:
- The nursing program accepts applications only once a year. Each Fall, 40 applicants are selected.
- Application opens November 1 until January 31 for the following incoming fall.
- Applicants not selected may reapply the following year. There is no waiting list.
- Chabot College uses a “merit based” system. The criterion score or eligibility worksheet is a 100 point system based on these 7 categories requiring all supporting documentations:
- Academic Degrees
- Health Care Experience
- GPA in Science ( 7 year recency), fixed courses and Statistics
- Life experience
- Military
- Second Language
- TEAS score
- The top 1/3 of qualified applicants will be entered into a random selection process and 40 applicants will be accepted. The remaining will be notified when a space becomes available.
- Accepted applicants are required to review online mandatory orientation/information during the summer. Verification of review must be submitted with the application.
Admission Requirements
Nursing Applicants and the Pandemic
Science Prerequisites: Since we are using the Merit Based Criteria, if you are taking a prerequisite that is used to calculate your GPA, it is advised that you take a Letter grade instead of Credit/No credit or Pass/No pass
- If you use the credit/no credit option you will receive a “C” letter grade for the GPA calculation.
- All science coursework must include a lab, during the spring, summer, and fall semesters of 2020, we will accept an online lab. This will only apply to Spring,Summer and Fall 2020 semesters.
1. SCIENCE PREREQUISITES
Complete the Chabot College equivalent of the following science courses:
Anatomy 1: Human Anatomy
Physiology 1: Human Physiology
Microbiology 1: Microbiology
The following criteria applies to the science prerequisites :
- Each course must include a lab and must be 4-5 semester units. We will accept any online labs from courses taken in Spring, Summer and Fall 2020.
- One term Anatomy/Physiology semester less than 8 units is not accepted.
- Only one “C” is allowed in the science courses. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required in the science courses.
- Students who have withdrawn or repeated any science prerequisite will have a one time deduction of 2 points for one withdrawal or non-passing grade or 5 points for more than one withdrawal or non-passing grade
- The science prerequisites must be completed by the Fall (12/31) prior to the year of application. This means the grades must appear on the official transcripts. In progress grades are not accepted.
- There is a seven (7) year recency requirement on your science coursework. You will not be penalized for courses repeated if original course was taken prior to the following dates for recency. Science coursework must be completed AFTER the following dates for students applying to enter the program.
- Fall 2021: August 1, 2014
- Fall 2022: August 1, 2015
- Fall 2023: August 1, 2016

2. FIXED COURSES: Complete the Chabot College equivalent of the following “fixed courses”:
English 1 or 1A: English Composition
Sociology 1: Introduction to Sociology
Psychology 1: Introduction to Psychology
Communications 1 or 10: Public Speaking or Interpersonal Communication
The following criteria applies to the Fixed Courses:
- Each course must have a grade of “C” or higher.
- The “fixed courses” must be completed by the Fall prior to the year of application. This means grades must appear on the official transcripts at the time on application. In progress grades are not accepted.
- Upper division coursework will not be accepted for any pre-requisite (CLPCCD Board policy 5016)
3. TEAS Testing
- Pass the TEAS at adjusted individual score of 62% or higher.
- An unofficial copy must be submitted with your application. If admitted, official test results from ATI Testing must be submitted unless test is taken at Chabot College.
- Students who do not acquire an ATI TEAS Individual score of 62% or higher will be required to complete remediation prior to testing again.

- Only the first valid score will be accepted if you have taken the test multiple times.
4. Attend a mandatory Nursing Program Information Meeting. Meeting will be provided in an online format after July, 2020. Proof of attendance is required with application materials.

- Comparable course from U.S. Regionally Accredited Colleges/Universities are accepted. Check the equivalency chart.
- Students who have attended college outside the United States must have transcripts evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) approved independent agency. The evaluation needs to include a course by course equivalency as well as indicating equivalency to an AA/AS degree or higher from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
- Students who process a BA/BS degree or higher from a U.S. Regionally Accredited College/University are exempt from Chabot’s specific General Education and graduation requirements. EDC 66055.8 Students who do not have a BA/BS degree will need to complete Chabot College AA/General Education and Graduation Requirements. See a counselor for assistance.
- First time applicants are encouraged to meet with a Chabot College Counselor for a review and evaluation of prerequisites. You need to have a Chabot College application on file in order to make an appointment.
- Official copy of transcripts from ALL colleges attended must be included in your application packet. If the college only offers electronic transcripts, please select Chabot and include a copy of order receipt with the application. If Chabot is not on the list of colleges you may send the transcript to cc-transcripts@chabotcollege.edu
After-admission requirements
All admitted(selected) students are required to complete the following:
- Maintain a grade of “C” or better in each nursing course for progression in the program and for an Associate in Arts Degree in Nursing.
- Submit a background check by social security number. All students must be have a social security card and be able to work in the United States. This is required for student lab time in hospital facility. Background check is a 7 year felony/misdemeanor criminal conviction search.
- Pass a drug screening. All students are required to have ‘clear’ drug screen prior to program admittance. Positive results on any non-prescription drug will result in dismissal from the program. Additional information is available in the Background Checks for Student Clinical Placement document.
- Students are required to be current on their immunizations. Titer reports for MMR, Varicella, and Hep B are required. In additional students must complete TB testings, have a current TdaP and complete N95 Mask fit. If you are enrolled at Chabot check out CDC immunizations. Costs
Students are responsible for:
- Program costs – approximately $7000.
- Costs for uniforms, laboratory fees, necessary equipment and transportation to off-campus locations.
- NCLEX-RN licensure exam fees – approximately $500.

General Advisement
Can I work while I am in the program?
There is no restriction against working while enrolled in the Nursing Program. However, it is not recommended to work more than 16-20 hours a week as it can interfere with your success in the program. It is not advised to work on days in which classes or clinical experiences are assigned. You will not be permitted to leave early or arrive late to clinical or class.
