Because you complete the first three years of a four-year degree at a community college, the DTA/MRP degree allows you to spend significantly less money on your BSN.
The DTA/MRP also makes it easy to transfer to several local colleges.
GENERAL DEGREE OPTION
The Associate in Nursing Degree (DTA/MRP) nursing program is designed for students who want to complete their prerequisites and nursing training at the community college level. After finishing prerequisites and our two year program, graduates are eligible to:
- test to earn the Registered Nurse credential, and
- transfer to a university to complete the last 45 credits towards a Bachelors in Science in Nursing (BSN).
LPN TO RN (ADVANCED STANDING) OPTION
The Associate in Nursing Degree (DTA/MRP) LPN to RN Bridge nursing program is designed for students who are currently LPNs and want to complete their prerequisites and nursing training at the community college level. After finishing prerequisites and our one year program, graduates are eligible to:
- test to earn the Registered Nurse credential, and
- transfer to a university to complete the last 45 credits towards a Bachelors in Science in Nursing (BSN).

- Access Services – Access Services provides reasonable accommodations and support services for students with disabilities
- Testing Accommodations -Students using testing accommodations must also schedule their tests with the Certification and Testing Center (not Access Services). This should be done with as much advance notice as possible. This process is explained in greater detail during the student’s intake appointment. The instructor will then receive an email from the Testing Center asking for the test to be sent to them. The instructor will complete the form “Instructions for Use of Access Services Accommodated Testing” and return it to the Testing Center with the test. When the test is complete it will be sent to the instructor for grading. Note: All students are responsible for all requirements of each specific course in the nursing program and accommodation for special needs does not guarantee that the same accommodation will be made for the student when taking the NCLEX exam for licensure.A temporary disability will be handled in the same way as a permanent one. A written release from a primary care provider may be required to clear the student to perform all tasks.

Licensing Information
BOARD OF NURSING PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS (Updated October 2020)
In accordance with U.S. Department of Education Regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v), the Nursing Program at TCC has reviewed RN licensing requirements from the following states to determine whether a TCC nursing graduate would be eligible for RN licensure in that states. Most states reviewed had published information available and it was possible to determine this with some certainty that a TCC nursing graduate could receive a RN license. However, there were states reviewed that had verbiage to the effect of “curriculum must be substantially equivalent” to the nursing curriculum qualifications in that state and that this determination would be made by that state’s Board of Nursing upon review of the applicant’s credentials. These states are noted under the column labeled “Unable to Determine that the Curriculum Meets the State Educational Requirements for RN Licensure.”
Tacoma Community College Nursing Program
Tacoma Community College (TCC), located in Tacoma, Washington offers 46 professional and technical programs accounting, allied health, business, health information management, information technology, office professional, human services professional, logistics, medical office and para educator. Associate in Pre-Nursing Degree
The Associate in Pre-Nursing Degree (DTA/MRP Transfer Degree) at Tacoma Community College is the first two years of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. After the pre-nursing degree in completed individuals will be granted an Associate in Pre-Nursing Degree from Tacoma Community College, before they transfer to a baccalaureate program in nursing. Individuals complete this program and then transfer to a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program after they have completed all of the courses, which are prerequisites for a baccalaureate program in nursing. After completing the pre-nursing program at Tacoma Community College, students are not able to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. This examination can only be completed once individuals have completed their Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at an accredited educational institution.
Individuals applying to the pre-nursing program at Tacoma Community College must have completed Math, Chemistry and Biology courses in high school. Applicants to Tacoma Community College are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor once they are accepted into Tacoma Community College.
Associate in Applied Science in Nursing (AAS)
The Associate in Applied Science in Nursing program at Tacoma Community College is for students who are interested in pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse. The graduate is awarded an Associate in Applied Science Degree and can go on to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses and then begin a career as a Registered Nurse in a variety of healthcare institutions.
Applicants to the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing Program must complete all prerequisites and course requirements over a maximum of three years and can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Individuals can apply to the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing Program on a full-time Registered Nurse Generic point of entry or a part-time Registered Nurse Generic entry. The full-time RN Generic Option is for students who already have a nursing background and the program is taught over six semesters over a two-year period. This option is ideal for individuals who are working less than 20 hours every week. The part-time Registered Nurse Generic entry option, is intended for individuals who do not have a nursing background, but would rather attend school on a part-time basis. This option offers courses twice per week and students attend lectures in one semester and clinical practicum in the next semester.
