Medicine’s Veterinary Technology Program has been ranked #1 in the nation in a listing of the Top 50 Veterinary Technician Programs for 2018 published by TheBestColleges.org. The website says to determine the best veterinary technology programs, they looked at the factors important to prospective students, especially common predictors of future success and a school’s commitment to online programs. “This boils down to admissions rate, student loan default rate, retention rate, graduation rate, and the percent of students enrolled in online classes,” the website states.
The Purdue University Veterinary Technology Program was recognized for offering on-campus education that includes hands-on experience working with animals and leads to the Bachelor of Science degree, the Associate of Applied Science degree, and provides a Bachelor of Science completion option. The website also highlighted the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program that offers the Associate of Applied Science degree and incorporates 27 didactic courses and 18 clinical mentorships.
Purdue Veterinary Technology Program Director Bianca Zenor (PU DVM 2001) said the #1 ranking represents an outstanding accomplishment. “We have a great team and they’ve worked hard to achieve this,” Dr. Zenor said.
The website says all of the data points are taken from information provided by colleges and universities to the National Center for Education Statistics. Each factor is weighted evenly in order to give an objective view and determine the 50 best veterinary technician programs. The website also states that, in calculating the rankings, they look at a school’s ranking when organized by a single factor, and then average each category’s ranking to find an overall score based on a formula in which the final score is equal to the admissions rate (20%) plus default rate (20%) plus retention rate (20%) plus graduation rate (20%) plus percent of students enrolled in online classes (20%).
The Purdue Veterinary Technology Program was established in 1975 and has graduated nearly 1,400 alumni, including nearly 900 Associate of Applied Science degree recipients, about 420 Bachelor of Science degree recipients, and 78 graduates of the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program. In the past year, 100% of the on-campus program graduates and nearly 90% of the Distance Learning program graduates achieved a passing score on the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), which is required in most states for a veterinary technician to be credentialed. The Purdue program also is one of only four veterinary technology programs in the country housed at a college of veterinary medicine.
What is most interesting about Purdue is their distance learning program which allows prospective veterinary technicians to study at their own pace. According to the site, students who take a 9 hour / day workload can earn their degree in 2 years. However, because most students who enroll in distance learning have day jobs, it can take up to 5 years to complete the program.

ABOUT ST PETERSBURG COLLEGE VET TECH PROGRAM
St Petersburg College Veterinary Technology Program offers dog and cat adoptions to veterans through its partnership with Pets for Patriots, and will help them find their new best friends.
The college holds the prestigious AAHA accreditation, certifying that it meets the highest standards of veterinary diagnostics and medical care. Animals in their care have been rescued from Pinellas County Animal Services. They stay at the college for several weeks prior to being made available for adoption.
No experimental or unnecessary procedures are ever performed on the animals. During their stay, the dogs are clicker trained by animal behavior students.
Pets available for adoption through St Petersburg College Veterinary Technology Program are networked through the group’s Facebook page and at offsite adoption events. Veterans interested to meet the available pet may do so at any time by contacting Jessica Rice through the email icon on this page.

The VNDL curriculum and courses are modeled upon the same curriculum taught in the on-campus program. The VNDL courses range from 0.5 to 3.0 credit hours of Purdue University credit per course.
There are a total of 27 on-line didactic courses (46.5 credit hours) and 18 Clinical Mentorship experiences (18.5 credit hours). Clinical Mentorships are experience practicums completed in a veterinary facility. In each Mentorship experience the student is required to practice and successfully perform essential tasks under the supervision of a veterinarian or a licensed, certified, or registered veterinary technician.
In addition to the VNDL courses, the student is also required to complete a college-level, 3 credit hour English Composition course (equivalent to Purdue University English 10100) and a 2 credit hour elective. These courses may be taken from an on-line college or from a local college or university. The courses taken must meet the criteria for Credit Transfer to Purdue University.
Total required credit hours (including elective and non-VN courses) is 70.
Completion of the 70 credit hours earns an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Nursing from Purdue University.

The RVC has two campuses – one in central London and one in Hertfordshire. Both are within easy reach of main transport links and are easy to get to from London’s airports.
Sports facilities
Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities both inside and outside of the college authority. Some examples of sports offered are rowing (see: the Royal Veterinary College Boat Club), rugby, netball, hockey, football, and, more unusually, dance, ice-skating, polo and shooting.
