The University of Hull is a top-50 ranked public university for research. The institution was established in 1927 as University College Hull. The Royal Charter of 1954 granted the institution an authority to award its own degrees to students. As a result, it became the third university in Yorkshire and 14th university in England. Today, it is amongst the world’s best institutes for research and learning.
Situated in England’s port city Kingston upon Hull, the campus of the university is based in a residential area. The University has three central accommodations namely Westfield Court, The Courtyard, and Taylor Court that provide on-campus accommodation to the students. The campus also boasts of a number of cafeterias, bars, a nightclub, a book shop, career service, an advice center, and sporting facilities with the new sports hall and gym opening in 2019.
The academic structure of the university consists of four faculties that offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level programs. The Faculty of Arts, Culture, and Education offers courses in various disciplines of education, social sciences, and arts. Faculty of Health Sciences includes degree programs in medical, life sciences, and social work. The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers programs in applied and environmental sciences, technology, and mathematics. Faculty of Business, Law, and Politics allows students to pursue courses in business management, finance, accounting, marketing, international relations, and law. The university has around 15,000 students including international students from 100 countries. With nearly 1,000 staff members.
The university has many distinguished alumni who are leading in the fields of academia, politics, science, sports, theatre, and journalism. Some of the notable alumni of the university are Ahmet Muhtar Kent (former CEO of the Coca Cola Company), Professor Sarah Gilbert (Professor of Vaccinology, Oxford), Anthony Minghella (British film director), Jeremy Darroch (Group Chief Executive, Sky Plc), Ana Brnabi? (Prime Minister of Serbia), Tom Watson MP (Former Deputy Leader of the Labour Party).
