The Master of Clinical Pharmacy is an off-campus, coursework-based degree, flexible enough to fit into any pharmacist’s professional development plan. The course is designed to enable you to advance your skills in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to patients with complex clinical needs, with a focus on evidence based practice and quality use of medicine.  The learning experience is both student-driven and patient-focused.

Study areas

Clinical pharmacy practice is the practice of pharmacy as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team directed at achieving Quality Use of Medicine.

This may include:

  • participation in the management of individual patients
  • application of the best available evidence in daily clinical practice
  • contribution of clinical knowledge and skills to the healthcare team
  • identification and reduction in risks associated with medicines use
  • involvement in the education of patients, careers, and other health professionals and
  • involvement in research.

Alternative qualifications

Whilst all students will be enrolled in the Master of Clinical Pharmacy, you may exit the course early and apply to graduate with one of the following awards provided you meet all the requirements:

  • Graduate Certificate of Clinical Pharmacy: You’ll need to successfully complete a minimum of 24 credit points of study
  • Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy: You’ll need to successfully complete a minimum of 48 credit points

If you decide to exit this course early with an alternative qualification, you will need to discontinue from this course. You may be eligible to receive credits for the units you have completed if you are re-admitted to this course or apply for another graduate degree at Monash University.

Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)

Qualifications

Depending upon your prior qualifications and experience you will be eligible for entry credit which reduces the duration.

Entry Level 1:
Duration: 3 – 5 years part-time (72 points to complete)
An Australian undergraduate degree or equivalent in Pharmacy AND registration as a pharmacist.
Entry Level 2:
Duration: 2 – 4 years part-time (48 points to complete)
An Australian undergraduate honours degree or equivalent in Pharmacy AND registration as a pharmacist.

International students located in Australia wishing to study this course must hold professional registration to practice in Australia AND have the appropriate visa to allow part-time study. All other international students are only able to study this course in their country of residence. Students located outside Australia must also hold professional registration to practice in their country of residence.

Maximum duration

This course can be completed over a maximum of 5 years, during which you must be continuously enrolled. Contact the faculty for more information.

Credit for prior learning

You may be able to receive recognition for some of your prior learning. Factors we take into account when assessing credit include:

  • whether you have a graduate qualification (e.g. graduate certificate);
  • if so, which graduate units you’ve completed;
  • which stream of the degree you are undertaking (coursework + research or coursework only).
