How can I learn photography skills online?

Student creation and peer critique are at the core of our online photography degree. As you share images with your classmates remotely, youโ€™ll learn to deliver and accept feedback to facilitate creative and artistic growth. Classes will introduce concepts and techniques, and students will learn by doing.

To fully participate in this distance-based studio program, youโ€™ll need to invest in the appropriate technology. A digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera is recommended but any high-quality digital camera with fully manual options and video capacity is accepted.

Is this a Bachelor of Fine Arts?

Yes, the bachelorโ€™s degree in photography is a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). Compared to a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a BFA focuses more heavily on creative and artistic expression than on a liberal arts education. After graduating, students may still leverage their education to pursue a wide variety of fields and careers around photography. The primary emphasis of this program is on developing creative sensibilities, visual literacy and the ability to participate thoughtfully in critical exchanges. These competencies may be relevant to many different career paths.

Do you need a degree in photography to be a photographer?

While a photography degree is not required to work in the field, it can prove indispensable for several reasons. For example, the curriculum teaches you how to use photography as a form of creative expression and exposes you to useful digital photography techniques. Youโ€™ll also learn to participate in a large community of peers and mentors.

Will my art degree with a concentration in digital photography say ‘online’?

No, Arizona State Universityโ€™s diplomas donโ€™t specify whether you earn your degree online or in person. All diplomas and transcripts simply say โ€œArizona State University.โ€ Thatโ€™s because ASU Online students learn from the same faculty and receive the same course content as in-person students receive.https://www.youtube.com/embed/uufJupQI5k8?autoplay=1&loop=1&mute=1&controls=0&cc_load_policy=0&disablekb=1&iv_load_policy=3modestbranding=1&rel=0&playlist=uufJupQI5k8&enablejsapi=1&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fasuonline.asu.edu
