Beauty Therapy Training, Certificate and Degree Program Options

Essential Information

Beauty therapists, also known as cosmetologists, can earn a diploma or an associate’s degree in cosmetology through 2-year community colleges and vocational schools, some of which offer online courses.

Diploma coursework combines practical and theoretical study. Lecture topics include depilation, day to night makeup, body massages, facial treatments, manicures and pedicures. Students also gain business and marketing skills.

In an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Cosmetology program, participants are able to practice what they’ve learned in on-campus salons, advanced salon labs or local spa internships.

Both program types take around two years to complete, and only a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent is necessary for admission.

  2. Advanced Skin CareLearn all about advancing your skin care routine on a weekly basis by adding exfoliation and masking. This lesson will focus on the different types of exfoliation as well as masking.   7. Lash and Brow EnhancementsBrows are the enhancing features on any face, and will always enhance the make up design.   8. Skin TypesBuilding up from the basics in lesson 1-4, this lesson will give you the tools to correctly analyse the skin, and determine the skin type, with the addition of case studies based on the skin types, where you will decide the products that will need to be used for each skin type.
  9. Sun SafetyComplete your skincare routine with more information to ensure your skin gets all the care it needs. In this lesson we also discuss SPF, the types of SPF, how important it is and what it really protects against. By the end of this lesson, you will never be without a form of protection of your skin again.
