Summer Engineering Awareness Program
Summer Engineering Awareness Program Students in group photo in front of Kelly CommonsFor more than 30 years, Manhattan College has introduced high school students to careers in engineering, math and science through the Summer Engineering Awareness Program.

This 10-day intensive program for rising juniors and seniors is offered free of charge, and geared toward minority and female students in the New York City metro area. The program is directed by Walter P. Saukin, Ph.D., associate professor of civil engineering, and sponsored by the ACE Mentorship Program, the Metropolitan Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the New York Building Foundation, the General Contractorsโ€™ Association, The Richard and Barbara Whitcomb Foundation, the New York Power Authority, in addition to individual and corporate sponsors.

What to Expect
The program focuses on science, engineering, SAT prep and the college admission process. As a program participant, you can expect to:

Learn about chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering, and physics through hands-on experiments in the laboratories. Specific topics include:

Engineering Awareness Day
Engineering Awareness Day is held annually on campus in November. If you are a high school student who is interested in engineering, math and science, you are invited to attend a panel presentation, tour the campus laboratories and participate in fun experiments.

Current professors and engineering students are available to answer questions about engineering concentrations, classes and facilities. Admissions and Financial Aid representatives are also on-hand to provide general information about campus and academic life, the admissions process and financial aid and scholarships.

Mechanical Engineering Summer Institute
This program is designed for high school students (preferably rising seniors and juniors) who wish to learn about mechanical engineering from engineering students, faculty members, and engineers in practice.

Information sessions

The program will include information sessions on topics such as

What is mechanical engineering?
What you will be doing as a mechanical engineer?
Different areas of mechanical engineering such as biomedical engineering and aerospace engineering.
Q&A sessions.

There will be presentations from student clubs and student projects, which will show you a window to the life of a mechanical engineering student.

Hands-on experience and Competitions

Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion which can grant them a no cost application to Manhattan College engineering program (worth of $75).

Apply to the Program
Interested students can apply from March 25th and pay $100 fee. The program has limited spots available and will be first come first serve. The application will be closed on May 24th.
