Bishop State Community College follows a simple application and admission process that includes a total of 4 steps, which are as follows: Step 1 in the application and admission process: Submitting the application A candidate is first required to apply to the college as part of the admission procedure at Bishop State Community College. To apply to the university, interested candidates can either call the college at (251) 405-7000 or do it through online mode to secure admission. Those willing to take admission can also directly visit the university’s administration at 351 North Broad Street, Mobile, Alabama 36603-5898. They can contact the Bishop State Community College admissions office by phone as well. Step 2 in the application process is acceptance by BSCC After an applicant has submitted their form and deposited the enrollment fee, they would be required to submit certain documents to receive an admission decision. For Bishop State Community College, it is suggested that an applicant submits the following documents: Essay: Sometimes known as the personal statement, the essay submitted by an applicant offers them a unique way to showcase their achievements and personality. Also, applicants are advised to include personal experiences as well as anecdotes. Transcripts: Submitting the necessary high-school and college transcripts is an important part of the evaluation process.

Health Science Professions - Bishop State

An applicant can use Parchment (or similar platforms) to submit the same. Official Test Scores: By submitting SAT or ACT scores, a candidate can make a stronger claim for securing a seat at Bishop State Community College. Notably, it is not a mandatory requirement and not all students submit their scores. Once the college finishes looking into applications, additional documents or information might be requested. Step 3 involves confirmation of attendance As part of the Step 3 in the admission process, the candidates must confirm their attendance to Bishop State Community College. Additionally, they will be required to complete their Financial Check-In process and select their housing as well. Review and verification of Summary of Accounts and Financial Aid (scholarships, fees, and tuition costs), choosing a lodging option, selecting a payment plan, and making the first payment are some of the processes included in the admission at the varsity. Candidates will be required to complete the Math and English assessments before proceeding to register for classes. In Step 4, candidates need to register for classes Once all the processes mentioned above are completed, the candidates will be required to register for courses.

The Department of Nursing offers a certificate (Practical Nursing โ€“ after the 3rd semester) and an Associate in Applied Science (Registered Nursing โ€“ after the 5th semester). Associate Degree Nursingย โ€“ Upon successful completion of the ADN program, the student is awarded an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
Practical Nursingย โ€“ Upon successful completion of the PN program, the student is awarded a certificate in Practical Nursing.
Associate Degree or Upon successful completion of 3rd blockย โ€“ Upon successful completion of the program of studies in either the Associate Degree or Practical Nursing Programs, the graduate may be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination, upon approval by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Practical Nursing Program (Evenings and Weekends) Accepting applications now!

Applications are being accepted for the Practical Nursing Program, Evenings/Weekend Cohort. This program is designed for individuals who are unable to attend college during traditional day hours.

Graduates of this program may apply for the Career Mobility (LPN to RN) Program to complete the associate degree in nursing after having passed the NCLEX-PN.

Program length is three semesters. Graduates of the program may be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination, upon approval by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Accepted students will attend Bishop State Community College two evenings per week followed by course work and/or clinical schedules on Saturdays and Sundays.

Class Hours

The classes will be offered two evenings per week beginning at 5:30p and will last until 9 or 10p – depending on the class. On Saturday, students can plan to arrive at 8 a.m. and stay until 2 or 3 p.m. On Sundays, students will attend a rotation at a clinical facility. The exact times will depend on the course as each course will have different hours. Some portions of the class will also be taught online.

Admissions Requirement Check List โ€“ updated June 2021

  • Unconditional admission to the college. Application must be updated if student did not attend Bishop State during the previous semester/term.
  • Original transcripts from all colleges attended must be on file and evaluated by the Admission Office prior to the nursing application deadline.
  • A completed application for admission to nursing program received in the Nursing Office (nursing@bishop.edu ) before published deadline.
  • A minimum of 18 ACT composite score National or Residual. ACT results must be attached to the application. There is no expiration date for the ACT score.
  • A minimum of 2.5 GPA for nursing required academic core courses which are: ENG 101 , MTH 100 or higher, BIO 201 , BIO 202 , PSY 210 , SPH 106 or SPH 107.
  • Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at current, native institution or cumulative 2.0 in institution from which student is transferring.
  • A minimum of 2.5 GPA cumulative high school GPA for students without prior college courses (GED will be used if applicable). Eligibility for or completion of ENG 101 , MTH 100 or higher, and BIO 201 with a grade of โ€œCโ€ or higher.
  • Good standing with College. A letter of good standing clearing from any legal, moral, or ethical issues, sent by the Dean or Director of Nursing (must be on official school letterhead) from any previously attended nursing program.
  • Meet the essential functions for nursing.
  • Name on application is current legal name and matches copy of photo ID and name in Bishop Stateโ€™s computer system. Current picture ID (driverโ€™s license or student ID) attached to application.

The required number of hours per week varies with each nursing course. The program is offered during the evenings and weekends with set meeting times. Courses are not scheduled around rotating shifts.

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained while in the nursing program.
