All other international requirements
Brock University welcomes students from around the world, and encourages applications from a variety of academic backgrounds. There are special categories of admission that do not tend to fall into the traditional undergraduate category. These require further explanation.
Academic Transitions (ACT)
If you meet undergraduate academic admission requirements, but just miss our English language proficiency requirement, consider the Academic Transitions (ACT) program. This 14-week program allows you to study English while completing a credit course toward your undergraduate degree.

Returning Brock Students

SECOND DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE
SECOND DEGREE OR CHANGE OF MAJOR – NURSING
If you are a past or current Brock student and wish to apply for Nursing, you must apply via the 105D OUAC application. It opens in mid-September and closes in February.
You must meet the same admission requirements as new applicants. These include: English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry (minimum 75% in each). These can be Ontario Grade 12 4U-level, or degree-level credits. The minimum requirement for consideration is a 75% overall average on one year of degree-level study.
The Nursing program has extremely limited enrolment and admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.

Language schools
Attending a language school in Canada? You must meet academic requirements based on the last institution attended, whether secondary school, college or university. Depending on the specific language school, we may recognize your language school credential for meeting English language proficiency requirements. Contact international@brocku.ca with questions.
Incoming letter of permission (LOP)
Contact your Registrar’s Office or refer to your university calendar for important policies and guidelines related to studying at another university. Entry to a specific course(s) may be subject to meeting prerequisite requirements, as well as space availability. LOP applicants are encouraged to consider, and be prepared to register, in an alternate course(s) because entry to a specific course cannot be guaranteed. The application fee is non-refundable.
APPLYING FOR A LETTER OF PERMISSION
Submit the application and have your home institution:

Academic Credential Requirements by Country
The following represents the minimum academic credential required for admission consideration. Attainment of the minimum credential does not guarantee admission because additional factors, including academic standing, program choice, program prerequisites and English language proficiency are also part of the admission decision.
Curriculum and Credentials
BRITISH CURRICULUM
Applicants will be considered for admission if they’ve completed five GCE/GCSE/IGCSE subjects with at least two at A-level (GCSE grades at C or above). One GCSE/IGCSE/O-level subject (graded C or above) and 4 AS-level subjects will be considered provided the AS-levels do not duplicate subject matter at the GCSE/IGCSE or O-level.
In consultation with the appropriate academic department, the Office of the Registrar will consider transfer credit for those A-level courses passed with a grade of C or better, to a maximum of 3 credits. Transfer credit will not be considered for courses completed to AS-level. Brock University will also consider applicants with VCE A level, VCE A level double award and BTEC certificate/diploma qualifications (or equivalent in other British-patterned countries).
Applicants may also be considered for admission based on:
- the Cambridge Pre-U diploma, or
- a combination of Cambridge Pre-U principal subjects, Cambridge Pre-U short courses, A-level subjects and AS-level subjects. Pre-U principal subjects or Pre-U short courses with a minimum grade of Pass (P1) are required for admission to the University. Admission is not guaranteed to specific programs because you have the minimum requirements. Many programs require higher averages.
Pre-U principal subjects and/or Pre-U short courses should be completed in the appropriate prerequisite subjects. In consultation with the appropriate academic department, Pre-U principal subjects with a grade of Merit (M3) will be considered for advanced standing.
CARIBBEAN CURRICULUM (CAPE)
Applicants will be considered for admission with completion of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) as well as Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) results. Applicants with passes in five subjects at the CSEC-Level (minimum grade 3), of which at least two subjects are completed to the CAPE Advanced Unit 2-Level (minimum grade 4) will be considered. Alternatively, one CSEC-Level subject (minimum grade 3) and four Unit 1-Level subjects (minimum grade 4) will be considered as long as the Unit 1-Level subjects do not duplicate the subject matter at the CSEC-Level. Prerequisite subjects required for entry to a specific degree program must be completed to Unit 1-Level with grades of no less than 4.
UNITED STATES CURRICULUM
We require a minimum Grade 12 diploma with high grades in academic subjects (usually a minimum B average, although higher grades are required for some limited enrolment programs).
If your grading scale differs from the Ontario secondary school scale on which a pass is 50%, your grades will be translated into equivalencies for admissibility and scholarship eligibility.
The grading scale is as follows:
- A+ = 92%
- A = 87%
- A- = 82%
- B+ = 78%
- B = 75%
- B- = 72%
- C+ = 68%
- C = 65%
- C- = 62%
- D+ = 58%
- D = 55%
- D- = 52%
- F = less than 50
You are encouraged to select courses with significant academic rigour in your final year of secondary school. The following prerequisite subjects should be completed during the grade 12 year for those intending on entering the sciences: chemistry and advanced mathematics.
The following are helpful in determining eligibility:
- SAT scores for borderline cases;
- School profiles (if available);
- Letters of recommendation from counsellors or teachers.
