Baccalaureate/MD Program: Undergraduate college(s) where baccalaureate degree will be completed. It typically takes four years of full-time study to complete your bachelor’s degreeโ€”encompassing 120 semester credits or around 40 college courses. If your college uses a quarter system rather than a semester system, you’ll need to complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits to earn an accredited bachelor’s degree.

Augusta University allows outstanding students the opportunity to achieve their BS and MD degrees in only seven years. Students spend their first three years in pursuit of the BS in Cell and Molecular Biology Major through the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM). In their fourth year, students meeting degree requirements begin their four year program in medicine through the Medical College of Georgia Hospital (MCG).

Eligible students who wish to pursue one of these programs must first apply to Augusta University as an undergraduate and select Biology or Cell and Molecular Biology as a major.  If accepted to Augusta University and if the basic eligibility requirements are met, then the student will be contacted by email and offered a specific program application which should be returned along with one letter of recommendation.  Applicants will be selected by an admission committee composed of faculty from CSM and from MCG or CDM.

Students who meet the Medical College of Georgia GPA requirements will take classes together as a cohort and participate in special opportunities for volunteering, clinical exposure, research, and more. They will experience a very robust curriculum which exceeds the basic preparatory requirements of the MD & DMD programs, and as a result, they will be prepared well to excel at the next level.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

BS/MD

High School GPA:  3.7

Minimum Composite ACT score:  32

Or SAT Math and Reading Test Score (students can superscore): 1450

Additional requirements of students in the BS/MD program include successful completion of an interview following the first year of study, maintaining a cumulative and science + math GPA of 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7 at the end of the first, second, and third year respectively, completing 40 hours of volunteer clinical service in a medical facility by October 1 of the third year, and achieving a minimum score of no less than the prior yearโ€™s national mean for medical school matriculants on the MCAT.  The MCAT must be taken no later than the second Saturday in September of the third year. Due to the nature of the curriculum all courses are to be taken during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year.  Students enrolled in the Professional Scholars program do not have the option to take courses out of sequence, repeat courses, or take courses at another institution during the summer.
