It’s no secret that the competition is fierce for college admissions. But did you know that the California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU COM) has a matriculation rate of only one percent?

From a pool of 4,000 applicants, only 79 students matriculated into CHSU COM’s inaugural class. That’s a tough admission rate. And it’s no wonder—even though CHSU COM is a newer DO school, it already has an impressive reputation and a stellar faculty.

Ten percent of the class is made up of minority students and women make up 41 percent of the class (a promising number!). The median age is 24 years old and most students have already earned their bachelor’s degrees before they apply to medical school—which makes sense considering that CHSU COM requires that you have already completed 90 semester hours (roughly three years) of undergraduate work before applying to its program.
