About
We trace our history back to 1865, when the School of Art first opened in the Old Free Library in Cardiff. Since we developed into a university, we have remained rooted in Wales while providing practice-focused and professionally oriented education to students from around the globe.
The University’s global community, reputation and partnerships are at the heart of its identity. Over 25% of the student population consists of international students. Cardiff University is keen to develop this international community and offers international scholarships, worth over £2M at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Driven by creativity and curiosity, Cardiff University strives to fulfil its social, cultural and economic obligations to Cardiff, Wales, and the world.
Cardiff University has 16 libraries, 25 IT suites and is a Wi-Fi-enabled campus. In recent years, substantial investment has been made in the University estate to increase available facilities for students and staff. In 2016, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh opened our new £44m Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) on the Innovation campus. A further £400m will be used to expand this Innovation Campus and create a new Centre for Student Life.
The city of Cardiff offers an excellent study location. Students benefit from the combination of a small, friendly, inexpensive city with the cultural and recreational amenities of an ambitious and progressive capital city. Student services
We offer free, impartial, non-judgemental and confidential counselling and advice on money, wellbeing, disability and dyslexia.
Housing services
We currently have nearly 1,000 study bedrooms located at the Cyncoed and Plas Gwyn campuses and allocate a further 600 private en-suite halls of residence to students through nomination agreements.
Library services
Cardiff offers access to digital and physical collections including our own Special Collections. MetSearch offers access to 1000s of ebooks and ejournals 24/7 and 365 days a year
The library service has a team of dedicated Academic Librarians who can give you advice and support.
ICT services
We support all aspects of using IT at Cardiff Met. We deal with password issues and computer problems; we can help with the wi-fi and give advice on purchasing IT hardware and software.
