Many countries in Northern Europe have state-funded Universities, which is why EU/EEA students don’t pay any tuition fees for their studies. Germany: Administrative Fees
Since 2012, German public universities have also adopted a no-tuition fee policy for its EU/EEA students. Unlike in Northern Europe, students are required to pay an administrative fee each semester (between 50-80 Euros). Increases to Annual Budget in Extraordinary Circumstances
Upon written request, accompanied by supporting documentation, the Law School Financial Aid Office will consider requests for budget increases.
Students may be granted a one-time budget increase in an amount up to $2,500 for the purchase of a laptop computer and computer-related supplies. Students may be granted an annual budget increase to cover the actual cost of University health insurance, or a comparable non-University health insurance plan.
Increases to annual budgets also may be granted upon proof of extraordinary and unanticipated expenses (e.g., unanticipated medical expenses or expenses related to disabilities, etc.).
Students who have spouses, domestic partners and/or children must understand that financial aid is not intended to support families and cannot replace or supplement the earnings of spouses or domestic partners. Students who have children may request budget increases to cover reasonable childcare expenses. Please discuss your needs with the Financial Aid staff.
Students participating in international exchange programs or in approved study abroad programs may request budget increases to cover additional expenses related to studying outside of the U.S.
There are a few things you need to know about law school tuition.
First, the cost of attendance budget is set by the University Financial Aid Committee. This budget ensures that students receive financial aid for their entire legal education. Second, your total financial aid package (scholarship, grants, loans) will be based upon the annual cost of attendance budget and covers the academic year only. This means that once you’ve applied for financial aid, it’s important that you understand how much money you’ll have coming in each semester—and how much it will cost you to live on top of that amount!
Some students may spend more than the budgeted amounts because they have extremely high expenses; others may spend less because they have lower expenses. Either way, it’s important to remember that your financial aid package generally cannot exceed the total cost of attendance budget in any given year—meaning that if your expenses are higher than what’s included in your aid package, you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket or take out a loan.
