Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty that performs minimally invasive treatments using radiologic imaging for procedure guidance. Interventional radiology treatments have become the primary method of care for a variety of conditions, offering less risk, less pain and less recovery time, compared to open surgery.
Interventional radiologists are board-certified, fellowship trained physicians who specialize in minimally invasive, targeted treatments. Interventional radiologists must graduate from an accredited medical school, pass a licensing examination, and complete at least five years of graduate medical education (residency). In addition, interventional radiologists are fellowship trained for at least one year in performing minimally invasive procedures using imaging. This specialized training is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and takes place in accredited training programs. Interventional radiologists are certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in both Diagnostic Radiology and Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Interventional radiologists have had extensive training and must show expertise in radiation safety, radiation physics, the biological effects of radiation and injury prevention. They must offer the most comprehensive knowledge of the least invasive treatments available coupled with diagnostic and clinical experience.
Interventional radiologists use x-rays, CT, MRI or other imaging guidance to navigate small instruments, like catheters and needles, through blood vessels and organs to treat a variety of diseases. Examples of treatments administered by interventional radiologists include angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, radiofrequency ablation, and biopsies. These minimally invasive treatments can cure or alleviate symptoms of vascular disease, stroke, uterine fibroids, or cancer. They are also experts at reading x-rays, ultrasounds, CTs, MRIs, and other forms of medical imaging.
The University of Tennessee Medical Center School of Vascular Interventional Radiography is now enrolling students for its next class. The course instruction covers instrumentation, procedures and anatomy pertinent to vascular and interventional imaging. The course, structured for technologists working in the endovascular or cardio interventional modalities, meets up to twice a week on Monday and Thursday for one hour of online instruction. Graduates are prepared to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) post primary examination in Vascular Interventional (VI).
Application deadline for the next class is December 7, 2021. Total tuition is due December 22, 2021. Classes will begin January 11, 2022 at 6 pm. All classes will be held online. Instructors will provide students with information and class log-ins.
Total Cost | Effective 01/01/2022 |
Application | $ 50 |
Tuition (Including AVIR Membership) | $ 2,285 |
Total | $2,335 |
* All fees are nonrefundable.
The school requires all applicants be in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and have a means of obtaining the clinical experience necessary to sit for ARRT, VI exam.
CARDIAC INTERVENTIONAL RADIOGRAPHY
As a member of the radiology team the cardiovascular-interventional technologist works alongside interventional radiologists and nurses. The technologist assists the interventional radiologist with diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. Cardiovascular-interventional technologists must have a combination of technical, radiologic and clinical skills.
Cardiovascular-interventional technologists perform many duties during an interventional procedure. The technologist is responsible for obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation.
Cardiovascular-interventional technologists must complete an accredited two-year certificate, associate degree and four-year baccalaureate program in radiologic technology accredited by the Joint Review Committee of Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Cardiovascular-interventional technologists must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and complete an additional advanced-level cardiovascular-interventional technology examination. In order to maintain ARRT certification and stay abreast of advances in cardiovascular technology (CV), cardiovascular-interventional technologists must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE) courses every two years.
Working as a Technologist in Cardiac Interventional Radiography
As a cardiac interventional radiographer, you’ll assist physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to help diagnose and treat heart and blood vessel diseases without surgery. In this challenging role, you’ll work with sophisticated fluoroscopic equipment to take images of the heart and the blood vessels surrounding it. You might assist with procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, ablation, and biopsies.
Obtaining ARRT certification and registration in Cardiac Interventional Radiography will give you the experience and skills you need to take part in these important procedures.
EARN ARRT CREDENTIALS IN CARDIAC INTERVENTIONAL RADIOGRAPHY
The purpose of ARRT certification and registration in Cardiac Interventional Radiography is to recognize individuals who are qualified to perform the role of a Cardiac Interventional Radiography Technologist. To earn ARRT certification and registration in this discipline, you’ll use our postprimary eligibility pathway. This requires, among other things, that you already hold ARRT credentials in an approved supporting discipline. Learn more about eligibility requirements and view additional resources below.
If you’re interested in becoming an interventional radiologist, one of the first things to consider is how much education you need. We’ve determined that 21.4% of interventional radiologists have a bachelor’s degree. In terms of higher education levels, we found that 0.0% of interventional radiologists have master’s degrees. Even though most interventional radiologists have a college degree, it’s possible to become one with only a high school degree or GED.
Choosing the right major is always an important step when researching how to become an interventional radiologist. When we researched the most common majors for an interventional radiologist, we found that they most commonly earn doctoral degree degrees or bachelor’s degree degrees. Other degrees that we often see on interventional radiologist resumes include associate degree degrees or diploma degrees.
You may find that experience in other jobs will help you become an interventional radiologist. In fact, many interventional radiologist jobs require experience in a role such as assistant professor. Meanwhile, many interventional radiologists also have previous career experience in roles such as diagnostic radiologist or radiologist.

China is geographically located in the east of Asia and its population exceeds 1.3 billion.
An understanding of dental education in China is thus of interest. However, as there is
little published information on this topic, this paper provides information about China regarding its dental history, dental school system including curriculum and dental licensure.
High school graduates take a nationwide entrance examination to apply for dental school,
of which there are more than 50 in China. A five year dental education leads to the BDS
degree. Dental school graduates must then pass the nationwide licensure examination
to practise dentistry. Currently, there are not adequate numbers of dentists to provide the
necessary oral health care for people living outside metropolitan areas.
China is geographically located in the east of Asia. The
country covers an area of 9.6 million km2
, which is
slightly smaller than the USA, although the population
exceeds 1.3 billion1
. China’s economic development
and increase in international relations has resulted in
increases in demand for oral health care2,3. International
relationships in dentistry have grown stronger through
journals, books, academies, seminars, and researcher
exchange programmes4
. Global dental education and
health promotion are also being developed5
. Dental
students play a significant role in public life, eventually
becoming the future leaders in dentistry6
. An understanding of dental education in China is thus critical.
However, there is little published information on this
topic.
This review of dental education in China addresses
the following topics: the history of dentistry and dental
education, the structure of dental education and entrance examinations, the dental school curriculum, and
dental licensure and practice. This review excludes the
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macau
Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan.
